Arcane Roots - Bright light goes out a little!

Hot prospects progress haults for now!

Arcane Roots *** (Barn Stage) are trying to go from a small stage in a pub to the big stage as support to bands like Muse. They have had so much promise with the album 'Blood and Chemistry' getting high praise from the right people but falling a little short on record sales.

Today at the Truck Festival they seem to have taken a few steps from where they were getting rave reviews and hidden more in the shadows cowering away from former glories. Today they are playing in a stinking barn in Oxfordshire far away from the massive venues they played in when supporting Muse. The barn smells really bad and when I mean stinking it is hard to not notice it all the time, it must have been used a few days for cattle and just turned into a live music stage a couple of days before.

Singer / Guitarist Andrew Groves has some great technical ability but I think sometimes over complicates songs with wide elaborate sequences. They are still in the Alternative section of the music industry still struggling to get played on mainstream radio. The band take a lot of influence from Muse but they have also taken inspiration from other places to like traditional Prog / Rock bands like Yes and Rush to mainstream Indie and Post-Rock bands, making them very interesting to check out.

I love the furious live presence that this band bring to their shows with a great frantic onslaught on some songs. Tracks like 'Energy is not lost, Just Redirected' and 'You Are' are a bounding light and really stands out. I would love to see this band progress a little more and not move back in sound and performance like they have/ I will most definitely be checking them out in the future.
