Ashestoangels - Turn on the hype in London!!!

July 27th 2015
London, Camden Barlfly, UK

****

Ashestoagels show that they can command a live show!!!

Ashestoangels **** have a lot of hype around them at the moment, but this is a band that I have personally known about for a long time. Actually being on the bill once with them in London. Tonight is the first time I have seen them back in London, since they hit the Black Heart for Camden Rocks and I just knew it was going to be another hot and sticky concert. This band always make something special for their fans, and even the tickets for tonights concert are picture ones. If you don't know Ashestoangels they mix the stage presence and sound of AFI with the distinctive Horror attitude of bands like The Misfits and Fearless vampire Killers.

I think for a lot of young fans in the audience, this is the first time they have seen the band. But there is a few loyal fans and VIP (Meet and Greet) people waiting outside the Barfly from early in the afternoon. I think these loyal fans have already got Ashestoangels on their walls, from pictures and posters that Kerrang! have provided in the last few months. And with the band given the New Grave tag along with bands like New Years Day and Fearless vampire Killers, you are lead to believe there is a new moment coming for you in the next year... with Emo and Nu-Metal dying down in the last few years.

It's great to see the band and fans walking about in their 'Horror Story' caps, and it's nice to see the tour is called 'British Horror Story'. I always respect a band that are proud of where they come from, and Ashestoangels are one of thought's bands. They open with the track 'Dorian', and you can see from start to finish how strong their determination is. There is also a great energy in the room, so as they blast through some of their most popular songs 'Six, Six, Six, The Wake' and 'Bury us in Black'. Everyone is already having a good time, even the band.

Ashestoangels always give their fans what they want, there is no attitude here... like we are going to play some B-Sides. They are even selling on the merchandise booth, an acoustic performance with them for only £150. Which is a brilliant deal, if you are a big fan and a very unique opportunity. I have also noticed that the bands musicianship is a lot better, from when I used to see them bottom of the bill in the early days.

They used to be all over the place, and now they are a really strong and tight unit. Also frontman Crilly's stage presence is a ego driven force, that is something that stands out and comes across really well. For me they should have dropped a couple of songs out of the main set, because it just seems a little too long for a young emerging band. But then again some of their best moments come in their encore.

Because due to popular demand they come back on for a manic version of the song 'Run' and a Misfits medley with all the members of the other bands that played that night Farewell, My Love, Dead XIII, Pretty Addicted. They play the songs 'Dig up your Bones' and 'Halloween', which make it fun for the Horror Punk fans in the audience. I have to say this is one of the times I have most enjoyed Ashestoangels set myself, only thing I think is they need to mix it up a little more. After so many crowd surfing and leaning into the crowd, your just wondering what else they could do... to grab the audiences attention.

But everyone had a really good time, so that is the main thing. And you can see that this is a band that is going places, I guess Download festival next year. But tonight is meant to be a Sold Out!!! gig and there is still a lot of space at the back, so let's see when they sell a few more records, if they have the ability to play bigger venues and impress a lot more new friends. They are most definitely a band that has  the determination to do whatever they want, so it's up to them.
