Azu Yeche - Be that Guy
*****
Azu releases another lovely song
Ah, remember a World a few years ago, probably in the late noughties?, when The Lighthouse Family ruled the charts. When we weren’t internally screaming as the planet burns around us, we could all (probably) afford rent and summers just seemed wonderful, full of friends, carefree, loads of smokey tunes …?. I’d bet most if us would kill to go back to that timeline, well there is a way to exactly this. And that way is the new single and video from Azu Yeche, which invokes a soundscape of better time. And I think what the World needs is more music like this, so it can mend and heal.
It hits the sweet spot of some Marvin Gaye Soul, 60’s style Motown drum beats, grooving bass and most importantly just some chilled as f**k and optimistic sweet crooning with layered harmonies. He makes it sound so utterly easy and effortless, and that it all comes just naturally to him. It would be easy to compare him to his London contemporary, award winning Michael Kiwanuka. Where Kiwanuka exceeds is in his dark lyrics and brooding moods. Yeché takes the same level of production but oozes warmth, this is a song you just have to listen to.
Maybe nowadays we are all too cynical to let this track become the hit it deserves to be. Get this on a mini-rig in your backgarden and I guarantee you all your neighbors will be Shazaming it instantly. A wonderful track that needs to be played all summer. So make sure you go and purchase yourself a coupy of 'Be that Guy', and check out his back catelogue of brilliant songs. Azu is a pure talent, that needs to be listened to.
