Country to Country Festival

The Band Perry *** formed in Greeneville, Tennessee in 2005 and have been doing really well recently with their last album 'Pioneer' which came out on Republic Nashville. The unique thing about the band is that they are all family and they started off at an early age playing with each other and you can see that in the tightness of the band when they play live and the fact they all look a little a like. The question is though should The Band Perry be counted as a Country act, yes they do have a certain tone to them but a lot of their songs sound more Pop orientated or even Soft Rock.

The Band Perry are very entertaining but at times seem more like a tribute band than anything else, maybe even a band made up for the Nashville TV show because of the good looks of all the members. They are a little Poptastic you see and they could even fit into the mainstream market quite well, but I don't think the songs are going to break down any boundaries. Nashville is very big at the moment and acts like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are very popular so maybe The Band Perry will do well for themselves, they have started off in the right way and have got a lot of people talking about them.

They open with the track 'Done.' which is a nice little number to start everything off with and has a few twists and turns in it, this song is a little complexed but simple at the same time and is really nice to listen to and get's them going in the right way. The second track 'Night gone Wasted' like the first is taken from the bands second album 'Pioneer' which has been their most talked about yet. During this song the band show they can really command a stage and show they have been watching one too many Queen or INXS live music videos.

'You Lie' is a nice slow number that lifts up into the air and shows off Kimberly's vocals very well as she moves round the stage in a tight silver PVC skirt and big boots showing. 'All your Life' off their first album as well as the last song and contains banjo and shows the other members of the band off better as talents in their own and both Neil and Reid can really Rock out and play their instruments. You can see that the Perry family are really talented and they apple does not fall far from the tree and that Kimberly isn't the only member with a great deal of ability to show off.

'I'm a Keeper' is a lot more lively and shows of the band to their best ability on the stage but is all a little bit like a musical in the west end than a Country show and when they get to 'Fat bottom Girls' the Queen cover it is like your watching 'We will Rock You' at Country to Country. Yes you can't go wrong with a song by Queen, I'm a massive fan and it is fun but it just isn't the place to be doing it in my opinion.

I'm also not a big fan of their song 'Pioneer' which just seems a little too obvious in place and could have been put together a lot better. I think what annoys me is this band has so much potential and they just don't live up to it, this song has too many lifts and I feel it's a slow moving power ballad disguised as a Country song. The set get's worse with their cover of a Pitball and Ke$ha song 'Timber' which people do recognise but is totally out of place and not their finest moment.

They do get better though near the end of the set with great version of new song 'Chainsaw' which the two brothers Reid and Neil come into their own on and really back up Kimberly as the song plods along. 'If I die Young' is really nice and is a great Country song and the highlight of the bands set and shows what the band can do when they put their mind to it. Closer 'Better dig Two' has some great Country and Folk roots to it and sounds like a traditional song and I really like this one to. I wouldn't write The Band Perry off but they have to be a little less Taylor Swift meets West End Musical and more Country to be on a bill like this today.
