Impressive CD / Blu-Ray live release

Messe Noire is a new live package from Polish titans Behemoth.  The release comes in multiple formats but generally you get an audio and visual compilation... like a CD and Blu-ray. First off all I just have to say, this is well worth your money. It’s beautifully presented in a in a hardback bookcase with nicely designed booklet, and like all Behemoth releases - Impressive artwork.

One the Blu-Ray you get two full concerts, as well as six music videos. On both concerts the band play their latest album and generally regarded their masterpiece 'The Satanist' in full, and the six music videos are of tracks from that album so this really serves as a visual companion piece to 'The Satanist'. The main concert is brilliantly filmed with visual art pieces interjected in is brilliant, and the imagery is just breath taking.

It is the biggest budget Behemoth stage show to date, and it looks simply fantastic. This is brought out well, with the depth of the visuals and colour on the footage on the the Blu-Ray. Again you get 'The Satanist' played in full and half a dozen tracks from more recent albums like 'Demigod' (I’d like to see them do that in full at some point) and 'Evangelion' and they even dig back to their Black Metal period and pull out 'Pire evil and Hate' which will be a treat for die hard fans.

You also get another concert where the stage show is a bit more basic and the set is slightly shorter but you get to see how the Behemoth show adapts to the setting of their live show. It says it’s a bootleg but it’s still filmed at multi-angles and is equally a good watch. The CD just has 'The Satanist' tracks live and also sounds great, I have to admit when 'The Satanist' was first released I didn’t quite take to it. I liked it but lets face it no album could live up to the hype that album received upon its release.

However when they started to play the album in full I saw them do it at Bloodstock and it clicked. It all of a sudden made sense to me. All of this is captured perfectly in this release, it's not so much a companion piece to 'The Satanist' but a completion piece.
