Bellowhead - Unofficially headline the Sunday of Cornbury!

July 7th 2013
Oxfordshire, Cornbury Festival, UK

****

Bellowhead play one of their biggest shows to date!

Bellowhead **** (Pleasant Valley Stage) have a lot of fans down the front ready for their performance. The thirteen piece band seem to be a few members down today, but as Jon Boden comes out in a bright pink jacket you realise they have not lost any of their stage presence. Bellowhead always shock me at how talented musically they are, with every member being able to play a number of different instruments.

They don’t get the crowd going as much as they should because this is their crowd and they should be making everyone go crazy, but the music is brilliant and from songs like ’10,000 miles Away’ to ‘Roll the woodpile Down’ they don’t disappoint. These songs are already really popular and a Bellowhead set without them just isn't the same.

They take you through their last single 'Betsy Baker' a song about a love affair in Swindon. If you could ever see that happening. I am from Oxford and we are not the happiest about knowing about Swindon love affairs. A lot of people are now having a love affair with Bellowhead the musicianship of the thirteen piece band is superb and everyone really knows how to work together as a team and the fact they all know what each other is doing at each time is unbelievable.

This isn’t a classic performance though by the band, maybe constant touring has made the band a little complacent, but still they are a force to watch live with instruments being used from Bag Pipes to Trumpets to a Oboe. It's also nice to see the band on the big stage in front of an audience that really loves them, the signs in the crowd show that for a lot of people in attendance Bellowhead is the highlight of their weekend.

I think they need a bit of time out and then they will be back bigger and better than ever, I think Bellowhead are a act to really look up to in the Folk genre and we will hear more and more about them as the years go by. They are always great to watch and I am sure I will see them even more in the future.
