F**K Black Spiders!!!

Hard Rock Hell

Black Spiders ***1/2 for me have never really reached their full potential, they have good musicians in the band, but the music has always been a bit generic. I have to say though I am starting to warm a little to them and Hard Rock Hell is the perfect venue for them to play. I used to like singers Pete Spiby old band Groop Dogdrill they were a favourite of mine when I was growing up, so for me it was really hard to accept Black Spiders straight away.

Black Spiders have a more Cock Rock / Classic Rock vibe going onto Stoner Rock while Groop Dogdrill were more Punk with a slight Hardcore vibe. So this is something quite different for me, but you should take every new band as something different and as the years go on I think Black Spiders have got better and better.

They open playing homage to their hero's KISS with the track 'KISS tried to kill Me' which is a blend of Classic Rock, Blues and Stoner riffs. If you have seen the video for this song you will see Black Spiders emulating the classic film 'Warriors' with the gang they are going up against being a KISS gang rather than the Baseball Furies or The Punks or The Rogues or any other gang out of the film. This video is really good and can be viewed ant the bottom of the page. This song is really catchy and taken from the bands first album 'Sons of the North' which was release over two years ago.

This great song that has loads of references to KISS in it really gets the band off in the right mood today and I realise I am really digging the bands vibe, and I love the fact they have got tighter than ever. They then launch straight into classic track 'Stay Down' which is really fast paced and Punky and is a song they always get everyone to chant F**k Black Spiders during holding up their middle fingers, which always goes down well. "F**k you and this one horse town!!!" goes Pete as the Mutha F**kin Black Spiders go into Rock action and hit you hard with their riffs.

'Creatures' is a steady slogger of a track which has Queens of the stone Age and Seether influences to it and leads on to 'What good's a Rock without a Roll?' which is full on Rock 'n' Roll and get's the crowd going. Black Spiders have a new album out called 'This savage Land' which is really strong and when they play 'Trouble' off this record you can see that this is a band that is going places. It has greatStoner Rock riffs that are really memorable. I think within time this band will reach the place they are destined to go, and that is to be top headliners rather than just a support act.

Other great songs in the set off the new album are 'Balls' and 'Stick it to the Man' that go down equally as good and are too of the tracks that made me want to buy the new record. Like stand out track on the new record 'Teenage knife Gang' which is one of the closing songs of the set.

Old track 'Like a Woman' is getting better as they play it but has two many similarities to other tracks by other bands. It's closer 'Blood of the King' which they released as a single that really gets everyone on their feet with it's classic Black Sabbath Esq. riffs and attitude that is similar to his old work with Groop Dogdrill that really impress every time they play it. This is a track I really like and recommend you to listen to, to get into the band.

I really enjoyed Black Spiders set at Hard Rock Hell and even went out and bought their new album 'This savage Land' which is really worth a purchase, so check out Black Spiders on a support slot near you soon. There was a time that every gig I went to they were supporting so I am sure you won't have to wait long.
