Blue Pills - ST
****
Long awaited debut album from Music Trespass's favorite hippies!
Our regular reader's may remember I gave a very favorable review to Blue Pills 'Devil Man' EP earlier this year or possibly late 2013 and I even ended the review saying a waited with baited breath for a full length from the the band well here it is! And it's just as cool as you would hope it would be. It seems the band have quite a big following already and have achieved quite a bit for a band with only a few EP's under their belt so no doubt the release is about to be snapped up. The main thing you need to know if your a fan is everything about the band's sound is fully expanded and developed. It's the EP's expanded.
For the uninitiated Blue pills have tapped into sound long abandoned since the 70's and play their music with the authenticity and attitude in a way that 90% of retro bands can only dream of. If you took the cosmic beauty of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and the Funk and excitement of Jimi Hendrix and had it fronted by Janis Joplin you'll be somewhere around where Blue Pills are. Elin Larsson's voice is amazing. She just soars over the music and she sounds so natural the real treat's on this album is that you hear her singing on a few mellower songs but we'll get to them later.
Opening with 'High class Woman' is a Funky urgent song which brings to mind an opening to a road movie or 70's exploitation film. What's great also is the live sound the album has. 'High class Woman' wouldn't actually have sounded out of place as a Tina and Ike track from the 70's it's that good!. 'Ain't no Change' opens with this wonderful Blues riff that builds to this up tempo rocker. 'Jupiter' is funky as hell and oozes attitude. 'River' and 'Devil Man' from their previous EP reappears here. 'No hope for Me' is one of the mellower moment's I mentioned earlier. It plays like a dark ballad which builds to a loud climax at the end but it's a sexy track and it's a highlight for Elin's wonderful voice. She is set to become one of the great Rock voices of this generation. Blue Pills is and album which show's a good band on their way to becoming a great band. Watch this space their going to be huge.
