Bright Light, Bright Light Feat. Elton John - I wish we were Leaving

(CD Single Review)

*****

An amazing collaboration of two great voices!

I first saw Bright Light, Bright Light (Aka Rod Thomas) when he supported the Scissor Sisters at the London, Camden Roundhouse and I was totally blown away by his voice. The show back then was a great brand of Dance music that sounded like it had been taken straight out of the 90's, since this show what has hit me hard with Rod's new music is that he can really mix up his styles but still keeping with his original template of sounds. I really love one of his new songs 'In your Care' which he really shows that he can put pure emotion from his personal life into a track.

America is taking really well to the music of Bright Light, Bright Light and I think the UK will follow suite because he is a really unique artist that is doing something quite different to anyone else, he really showed this with his blueprint album and when he performed tracks of this when he performed instore at Rough Trade in London. The track starts off with a haunting melody that sounds similar to the start of 'Disappointed' by Electronic and then has a tempo beat that is a little Drum 'n' Bass Esq if it was produced by Duke Special. The backing melody is like something else and really hits at your heart strings and makes you sad but not in a bad way in a way that is close to your feelings.

The contrast between Rod's and Elton John's vocal styles on this track really works and makes you think of other artists it would really have worked with too like Boy George. Maybe we will see a duet between these too acts in the future, I know I would personally love to hear it. You would not even think that Elton had been in the business so much longer than Rod because both seem so equally settled on the song and it just fits like it was really meant to be, this is the sign of a great well written track. There is really something soothing about both of these singers vocal patterns that makes you feel your with someone that really knows you well.

The content of this song really hits home as something that could happen to you in your own life so you really identify with it. If I was having a hard time or feeling really sad I would put on this song and it would make me feel better and really help me to deal with my emotions. You can watch the video for this song at the bottom of the page and I advise you listen carefully to the beautiful message that the song cause it's amazing. This is going to be a big hit and it is already one of my favourite songs of 2014
