Cannibal Corpse - Are the band everyone is waiting for... but did they deliver!
***
Band your head... to these headbanging legends!!!
Bloodstock Festival
Cannibal Corpse *** are known for their brutality and fans that like to bang their head until it drops off. There is a really big attendance for them as they take to the stage. And I am hearing a lot of people saying that this is the band that they have come for, and have been waiting all weekend for. They start off with two gems 'Scourge of Iron' and 'Demented Aggression' off the bands previous album 'Torture', which I think sounds much better live than it does on the album.
Cannibal Corpse show why the are the cream of the Death Metal scene with tracks like 'Kill or Become' and new track 'Icepick Lobotomy', and also the brilliantly titled 'I Cum Blood'. These songs hit you like a hammer, in a painful way.... but we love it and vocalist Tom Fischer dares people to out head bang him as he goes into full on Death Metal mode.
This is a band that like to take no prisoners and with 'A skull full of Maggots' a song that any Death Metal / Heavy Metal band would be proud of they really do this. But it's a real shame that the vocals don't sound heavy enough through the Bloodstock PA. 'Hammer smashed Face' has a really killer riff to it and shows of the shreading skills of Patrick O'Brien, who really shows off what he can do on the guitar.
To be honest it's not the music that is lacking in their set today, but the lack lusture vocals by George 'Cirpsegrinder' Fisher which just sound like static in places and not as strong as they have done in the past. Like when I saw them a feww years back at Graspop in Belgium, where they were really furious and booming.
This wasn't a bad performance by Cannibal Corpse, but it wasn't their best. And you can tell that this is not the best era for them with them only playing a couple of song off their last album 'A skeletal Domanin', showing they don't have much confidence in it. But I think more great things are to come from Cannibal Corpse in the future, but I don't think at the moment is the best era for Death Metal music and bands after two or three years being so solid and the best ever for the genre.
