Charlie Simpson - Young Pilgrim

(CD Album Review)

***

Simpson goes all Folk on us!

Charlie Simpson has gone a long way since he was a teenager singing with Pop sensations Busted, He has had hit albums with his band Fightstar but now he has decided to go it alone and 'Young Pilgrim' is his debut album which see's him as a singer songwriter which mixes Indie with Folk. Single 'Down, Down, Down' is the first glimpse of his writing skills on this album and is a vocally multi layered song. It is well written and shows he can write good melodies on his own without help from his friends.

'Parachutes' has a good sound to it and is the title track of his EP of the same name and you can see why because it is a very good song. Track 'Thorns' has a good atmosphere to it and I love how the backing vocals build it up and makes it come to life, this is one of the best songs on the album.

Other good songs on the album is the catchy sing-a-long track 'Cemetery' which flows really well and 'If I loose It' which is just beautiful. A few of the other tracks don't really go anywhere and are a little too quiet but it's a good first attempt by this Pop Star.
