The Committee - Power through Unity
****
Awesome debut full length from International crew!
The Committee seem to be shrouded in mystery everything I can find on them say they are a collaboration between Doom and Black Metal artists and their all from different countries so take from that what you can, I'm not sure if it's a super group or what, they have this Free Mason image too which is pretty cool, but on to what really matters the music. 'Power through Unity' mixes Post Hardcore and Doom structures like Jesu or Cult of Luna and mixes it with Black Metal. It's a curious mix but works really well. It only has six tracks but the whole album clocks in at fifty minutes. Each track lasts from six to eight minutes long, so each track has an entity of it's very own. All the songs are quite repetitive so it embedded itself in your head. you'll probably be better off digesting this album two tracks at a time and it's well worth the effort.
This is one of the only albums I've heard in a long time that sounds authentically dark, 'Man of Steel' for example has a real sense of dread running through it. 'Katherine's Chant' is a highlight this track will literally haunt you! It sticks in you head long after even the first listen. 'The Last Goodbye' starts off with this lovely melodic passage before crashing into a wonderful doom part then rising to a Black Metal verse. Ishahn would be proud! All in all this is one of the most original and Intriguing debuts I've heard in a long time. It could do with the fat stripped here and there, one or two tracks do tend to drag but that aside it's genuinely exciting to see how this band develops and see what they do next.
