Conchita Wurst - Pops in to sing a few songs at G-A-Y, London!
****
The Beautiful one hits G-A-Y!!!
Conchita Wurst **** nicknamed the 'Bearded Lady' graced the stage of G-A-Y with elegance and grace like a true Diva. The venue is packed with many people being left outside not being able to get in because the venue is at capacity. Introduced by Jeremy Joseph and the man that helped him to get her to the venue Graham Norton, you instantly know that you are going to see something special.
She comes to the stage in an amazing black sequined tight outfit with a trail that blows in the breeze and she bursts into the Cher hit 'Believe', which is a shock because I think a lot of people are expecting her own material. This track sounds really nice and Conchita really makes it her own, but it doesn't stand out as much as her own songs 'That's what I Am' and 'Rise like a Phoenix' which are far superior in comparism. If you know the track 'Believe' it has a lot of auto tune on it, but Conchita sings it perfectly without any technical aid... not that Cher didn't just put it their for effect.
This makes you want to hear new material by Conchita Wurst even more, I personally can't wait for it. If it's anything to go by the two previous released tracks. One for Eurovision 2012 and one for Eurovision 2014 which was this years winning song for her native country of Austria. 'That's what I Am' is a real gay anthem and G-A-Y is the perfect place for it to be sung. It has a 90's club feel to it and your instantly hooked in by it.
'Rise like a Phoenix' the Eurovision 2014 winning song sounds better than ever and resounds round the venue like a bullet going off with everyone singing every word. Showing what a great number it is, and how well written and perfect it is for Conchita. This is a song that any Diva that has played G-A-Y from Kylie to Madonna would love to have in their arsenal and goes down better than a winning goal in a cup final (Woops!!! used the words winning goal and cup final in same sentence as the word Arsenal, don't want them to have the cup final glory) but would love Conchita to succeed all the way.
After being given a big bokay of flowers by Jeremy Joseph she comes back on to sing the famous Celine Dion Titanic number 'My heart will go On', Yes again this is good but you would rather hear some of her own material... but I have to admit for a moment we all were Kate Winslet so it was kind of fun. Conchita is a real talent for the future, which I am sure will be gracing the big stage of the London, Royal Albert Hall in the future, with a hit No.1 album behind her so keep your eyes peeled. I love Conchita and I think you all will too, you can watch her video for 'Rise like a Phoenix' at the bottom of this page.
