Darkest Era - Are a band Ireland should be proud of!

Irish Metaller's show London how it's done!

Darkest Era explode into action with 'The Serpant and the Shadow' from their latest album 'Severance'. The band mix the riffage of their native Thin lizzy and their story telling qualities for that matter but with a dark atmosphere and punch of Classic Metal. With Thrash Meal elements here and subtle hints of Black Metal and Doom it all comes back to that Classic Metal sound. It's a unique mix and it has to be said for all the little sounds you hear in there the band sound very much themselves!

The band play with an exciting energy the band all move to different areas of the stage and attacking in unity with the two guitarists and bassist coming together during certain section. Frontman Krum attacks the audience with an awesome vocal style, that rings round your ears in the small venue. He then uses the whole venue, spending the majority of the set actually on the floor among the audience. Krum seems to hit all the notes to perfection and has a fantastic vocal range and does some great banter between songs, which really helps to carry the show and is backed perfectly by the band.

The first half of the set concentrates on plugging their latest album 'Severance' while visiting the first album 'The Last caress of Light' in the second half. It has to be said the best song tonight is from the latest album 'Beyond the grey Vale' is a slow Doomy song that is just hypnotic and has some resemblance to some of the work of My dying Bride in places. This song brings to mind classic Dio and other great singers of the Classic Rock genre of the same brilliance, so it is that good.

The band play just over an hours set but it flies by, finishing with the opening track of their first album 'The Last caress of Life',  the track called 'The Morrigan' is the perfect track to bring to a close an awesome night of Heavy Metal. It has a killer riff at the beginning and it continues on like a old Classic Rock song and is really memorable, so after you have heard it a couple of times it get's really stuck in your head.

This is the first headline tour by the band and may it be the first of many more to come because I really enjoyed it. This is a band that is worth your attention in the future, so go buy yourself an album. I would strongly recommend this band to fans of Dio, My dying Bride and Paradise Lost.
