On the verge of the tour, we review the last record by The Darkness
The Darkness's seventh massive studio album 'Motorheart', is a return to form for the band. The album delivers a collection of high octane Hard Rock anthems with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humor. The album's nine tracks are all catchy, riff driven, and powered by Justin Hawkins' soaring vocals. The Darkness, are an iconic Rock band known for their electrifying performances and infectious energy, has returned with a vengeance in their album 'Motorheart'. Packed with the trademark blend of hard hitting riffs, gritty vocals, and irreverent humor, The Darkness proves that they still have what it takes to Rock the World.
The album then segues into a string of equally catchy tunes, including the Queen esque 'Sticky Situations', and the sing-along chorus of 'Jussy's Girl' The album also features a few more experimental tracks, such as the Pop infused 'Speed of the nite Time' and the epic ballad 'Nobody can see me Cry'. However, even these songs are firmly rooted in The Darkness's signature sound, with their big hooks and over-the-top arrangements. The album kicks off with a bang as 'Welcome tae Glasgae', which sets the tone for what's to come. The track encapsulates the raw energy and attitude that The Darkness is renowned for, immediately pulling listeners into the heart of the Glasgow inspired Rock journey.
'It's Love, Jim' takes a slightly different turn, showcasing the bands versatility. combining melodic elements with powerful guitar work, creating a love anthem that is both heartfelt and headbanging worthy. The title track 'Motorheart', is a relentless onslaught of Rock 'n' Roll power. With thunderous drums and blistering guitar solos, paying homage to the enduring spirit of Motorhead, leaving no doubt that their own motorized hearts are still beating strong. Slowing things down a bit, The Darkness delivers a soulful ballad with 'The Power and the glory of Love'. The track showcases a different side of the band, proving that they can masterfully navigate the emotional spectrum while maintaining their Rock roots.
'Jussy's Girl' injects a dose of playful energy back into the album. With catchy hooks and a lively rhythm, The Darkness explores the lighter side of love, delivering a track that's bound to get crowds singing along. Things take a risqué turn with 'Sticky Situations'. Where they dive into the cheeky and provocative, combining clever lyrics with a pulsating beat. This track is a testament to the band's ability to balance humor with musical prowess. Introspective and poignant, 'Nobody can see me Cry' showcases the depth of the songwriting. The emotional vulnerability in the lyrics is complemented by powerful instrumentals, creating a track that resonates on a personal level.
'Eastbound' picks up the pace again, delivering a high energy anthem that celebrates life on the road. With its infectious rhythm and anthemic chorus, this track is a tribute to the thrill of the journey. Closing out the album with a bang, 'Speed of the nite Time' is a fast paced, adrenaline fueled ride. The Darkness unleashes a sonic whirlwind, leaving listeners on an exhilarating high and cementing 'Motorheart' as a must listen for Rock enthusiasts. The Darkness have always been known for their sense of humor, and 'Motorheart' is no exception. The album is full of playful lyrics and over the top theatrics. But even when they're being silly, the band are still a group of great musicians.
The songs on 'Motorheart' are all well written and performed, and the album is a lot of fun to listen to. In 'Motorheart', The Darkness not only pays homage to their roots but also proves their ability to evolve and experiment within the rock genre. With a huge range of tracks, this record is a testament to the band's creativity and commitment to delivering music that packs a punch. Overall, 'Motorheart' is a fun and energetic album that is sure to please fans of The Darkness's previous work. It is a no-frills, Rock 'n' Roll record that is perfect for blasting in the car or at a party.
