Crosby still making great music

David Crosby is probably still best known as a part of Crosby, Stills and Nash the folk super group who were still touring up until the 2015. Since then David Crosby has released three solo albums and now ‘Here if you Listen’ is his fourth. To be fair it is not really a totally solo album as he works with some amazing musicians Michael League of Snarky Puppy, Michelle Willis and Becca Stevens who all add to the overall sound.

In fact it is the female vocals that take the lead on opening track ‘Glory’ a swirling sound that really shows the multiple talents of the bands, from a tight musical sound to even tighter vocal harmonies. David Crosby does take the lead on some tracks though such as ‘1974’ which includes some decades old vocals they retrieved from an old demo, something they also repeat on ‘1967’ I assume these are the years the demos were from initially.

Again utilising what his collaborators can offer ‘Your own Ride’ is more piano driven, the whole album has a laid back sound that makes it very easy on the ear whilst also engaging. Mixing the Folk sounds coupled with solid song writing which all of the band members contributed to. ‘Balanced on a Pin’ is very much back to the guitar sound and led by David.

The album comes to end with a track that seems to bring it all together perfectly ‘Woodstock’ has all of those harmonies that have been a staple of the album and mix a country/ folk sound into one of the more upbeat tracks. Overall a good album and should be appreciated by his original fans whilst gaining some new ones along the way, not bad for a man of seventy seven years old.
