WoW!!! this band has impressed me!!!
Graspop Festival
A day to Remember ****1/2 (Main Stage 1) have been making a name for themselves as a great live act, but listening to them I didn't believe they would be as good live as everyone said. But was I proved wrong, from start to finish they were just totally superb. This is a band that really live up to the hype, and that is a really rare thing.
Opening with the first track off their album 'Homesick', 'The Downfall of us All' a perfect song to get a set into motion. It as a great opening riff, before it move's into a more catchy element. In a way A day to Remember is one of the softest bands on the bill, but they do have some really heavy moments.
They verge on Emo to Pop Punk to even Metalcore and have a lot of elements of fun to their music, so they are able to relate to the crowd in a very pleasant way. Singer Jeremy McKinnion has great stage presence and he really knows how to command a stage, so as they break into '2nd Sucks' you realise this is a band that shouldn't be underestimated. '2nd Sucks' is a heavy song that is ready to rip at you, and show that this band are not just about happy.
The video also for this song is a little darker than their normal, light MTV friendly style, and you can see some of this style with all the retro spin off T-Shirts that all the kids seem to be wearing in the crowd. Newer song 'Right back at it Again' off their 2013 album 'Common Courtesy', Get's everything really bouncy with it's Metalcore beatdown intro to it's really catchy Pop Punk verses and chorus. You see guitarists Neil Westfall and Kevin Skaff running round like crazy with bassist Joshua Woodard, which is really great to watch.
You can see why this song has a massive four and a half million views on YouTube, it's just a great new Rock / Metal song. Continuing on with other singles like 'City of Ocala' and 'I'm made of Wax, Larry what are you made Of?', you can see how strong this band are and your eyes are glued to them. You really don't want to miss a minute and this is strange because I wouldn't have put them at the top of my list. One of the highest points in the bands set is the single 'All signs point to Lauderdale', a song that really hits it home for the band.
Who would know that this band had so many good singles!!!, If they keep it up like this in the future they will be a headline act. I do know they headlined some shows on the Vans Warped tour. This Florida band address the crowd like they are their friend, and I could see this band chatting to everyone after if they could. You see the pits open up for the brilliant and long titled 'Mr. Highway's thinking about the End', which heaviness almost matches the likes of Parkway Drive.
I think this band are growing into a monster, as they break into another single 'Have faith in Me' and new song 'Sometimes you're the Hammer, Sometimes you're the Nail' you just don't want their set to end. Like all good bands they save the best to last including hits 'All I Want' and 'The Plot to bomb the Panhandle', so really end the set with a boom!!!, what a great live band that I would like to see live again,
