The Dead Daises - The Classic Rock supergroup hits London
***
Rock royalty hit the London, Forum
The Dead Daises *** are a Classic Rock / Blues supergroup consisting at the moment the following members Glenn Hughes (Ex-Trapeze / Ex-Deep Purple / Ex-Black Sabbath ext...) Lead Vocals, Bass / Doug Aldrich (Burning Rain / Ex-Whitesnake / Ex-Dio / Ex-Hurricane / Ex-House of Lords / Ex-Bad moon Rising / Ex-Revolution Saints ext...) Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals / David Lowy (Operation: Mindcrime / Ex-Whitesnake / Ex-Billy Idol / Ex- Foreigner / Ex-Sass Jordan / Ex-Ozzy Osbourne ext...) Rhythm Guitar and Brain Tichy - Drums. The Dead Daises have had too many members to mention, I really would be here all day... saying who is in the band and what bands they played with. So let's just focus on the current members. Of course I know Glenn Hughes well from his time in Black Sabbath and Doug Aldrich from playing in Whitesnake, so I was really looking forward to seeing them. So after too great support bands FM and the Graham Bonnet Band who opened up, I was waiting with anticipation for The Dead Daises to open up the show.
Some of the band members come on stage to Aerosmith's hit song 'Sweet Emotion' playing, and then Glenn Hughes struts out wearing an awesome red suit. Yes! it's really cool, I don't know if I could get away with it though. But he is a Rockstar, and looks the part onstage. They break into the opening number 'Long way to Go', which has a great Blues bass line and a great lyric flow. The chorus sounds how it is meant to be, and the guitar solo is really nice on this track. Recently the London, Forum in Kentish Town has seen some great shows including Skid Row with The Treatment, Enuff Znuff and Collateral. So recently there seems to be a bit of Classic Rock buzz around the venue. Rock and Blues is really making a comeback again, and I think bands like The Dead Daises are really taking advantage of that.
It would be a real shame if Dead Daises didn't do a couple of Deep Purple songs, seeing Glenn Hughes is in the band. And the audience get a couple of classics in the form of 'Mistreated' and 'Burn', which of course go down really well. The band had on stage laser lights that moved up and down and back and forth, when they were performing songs like 'Midnight Moses' and 'Born to Fly'. Which seemed to annoy a few people near me, that I saw walk off after a while because they were struggling to see the show... which was a real shame. Especially when these tracks are a couple of the highlights in the bands set. Maybe they had problems with these kind of lights, because some people are Epileptic and maybe they didn't see the signs. I have to say I didn't see the signs saying about the lights, but this is not to say they where not there in some place.
I have to say the band look very good, they all have aged well and they have real swagger onstage. I think you have to remember, these guys where Rockstars when it was cool to be one. And that they really lived the high life, and had the songs and ability to back up the fact. They are all talented musicians, they don't need auto tune... or things coming off the backing. And Glenn Hughes vocals sound so great at times, like on the track 'Face your Fear' which you can hear the studio version of at the bottom of this page. I wish there was a little more to the show, it is a little one dimensional... once you seen one part you have seen most of it. But saying all this their cover of 'Fortunate Son' by Creedence Clearwater Revival is quite something and I would say is their best moment in their set.
I also have to say I expect a little more, from such legends. You know when you are a kid, and you make up a collection of musicians you would put in one band together. Come on we have all done this, like making our personal own festival with all our favourite bands (with no help from Spotify... well it didn't exist back then, and I think I can do this task without their help or them telling me who I would have on the line-up). I think some of the members of The Dead Daises would have been in contention, but the fantasy really didn't live up to the reality. Because The Dead Daises performance sadly was average at best, and hard to get to the end of. They show so much promise, and there are moments in the set that really stand out. And your like, why can't this be like this all the time. So for me I have to say I would not run out and see them again, but I would give them another chance if they where on a bill with other bands.
