Desert mountain Tribe - Climb their way to the top of the World
****
A purfect peak Performance
Desert Mountain Tribe **** Have been on my radar for some time and tonight there is an air of anticipation at Desert Mountain Tribe’s album launch gig. With a SOLD OUT!!! night at The Lexington, London, UK, even Mark Jones is here!!!!!! Yes that Mark Jones from the 80’s.
Lead singer Jonty Balls says that they are going to take the fans on a journey through their entire back catalogue. The first part of the set was songs from their earlier releases, then the band play songs from their latest album ‘Om Parvat Mystery’. On a side note, Om Parvat is a mountain in the Himalayan mountain range.
Desert Mountain Tribe have a very chilled 60 / 70’s feel to their music with a hint of Grunge added into the mix with a modern PSYCADELIC twist, with the back drop of videos from around the world which fitted perfectly with each song. The band hit the stage with ‘Take a Ride’ followed by ‘Runaway, Heaven and Hell, Circles’ and ‘Heratic’.
A band of few words between songs, which in my opinion does not detract from the outstanding musicianship each band members has to offer and you can tell they are love playing the new songs to the eager fans tonight. You could see that lead singer Jonty Balls, bassist Philipp Jahn and drummer Frank van der Ploeg have a great musical chemistry between them in their playing.
Towards the end was the “Interactive section”, bass player Philipp Jahn announced that everyone who bought a ticket had their name put into a raffle to win a test pressing of the latest album, unfortunately who ever won may have trouble playing it as it fell out of the sleeve onto the stage. Also a CD copy of 'Om Parvat Mystery' was thrown to the adoring fans, sadly this hit the ceiling fell into the hands of one of Philipp Jahn's freinds! Not a good night for the fans... to grab a freebie.
Indian singer Najma Akhtar, who sang on two songs on the latest album was invited onto the stage for what I can only describe as a fantastic fusion between Indian Folk and Rock on ‘Himalaya’ one of the standout tracks on the album. Outstanding!!!.Desert Mountain Tribe are absolutely right on the edge of something huge, and I am glad I saw their show before they get there.
