Diary of Dreams - Stop off in London after a trip to Whitby!
**** 1/2
Dark brand of Goth Darkwave brings a dark cloud over London!
Diary of Dreams ****1/2 don't play the UK that often so there are a lot of people really looking forward to tonights show, well the Goth's of London that didn't manage to get to Whitby to see them. The venue is totally Sold Out and packed to the rafters with people that don't want to move a muscle in case they lose their place to see them and from the moment they start you can see why.
This great sound which can only be branded as Goth / Darkwave comes out of Germany and is quite unique, with only acts like Deine Lakaien having managed to keep up with it to the standard of Diary of Dreams. The show is brought to life with what could only be my favourite track 'The Wedding' which comes off their latest album 'If' which in my opinion is their best ever. This has great hypnotic beats to it and brings you into a trance like state of pure emotion, this track is something else and is helped along by singer Adrian Hates haunting vocals which are like nothing else.
They follow this up with the beautiful and Dance orientated Darkwave Esq 'Butterfly: Dance!' which is equally hypnotic and brilliant, they have really started the set off with class. They couldn't have had a better start to the set and if you liked the album 'Ego X' then you will know the song 'Lebenslang' a nice German song that chugs along nicely and is very catchy in places. Adrian sings the songs with confidence and like they all come from the heart, their is no pushing to get words out it all comes naturally.
One of the other highlights of the the show is the beautiful 'Amok' which is a song that has real meaning and the lyrics are really meaningful. Another great moment in the bands set is the furious 'Giftraun' which resembles a more educational Rammstein song in plays and guitarist Gaun:A really comes to his own in, screaming out the lyrics into the microphone, this is simply brilliant. "We all should be Grateful" that the track 'The Plague' is equally good and continues the set with style and a killer groove.
If you don't know Diary of Dreams I would recommend 'Chemicals' as the first track to listen to because it's easy to get into and tonights version might be a little different but it is equally accessible and a track I would play on repeat after the show in my head and tonight it leads nicely into 'Mein-Eid' making a good mix and Adrian's vocals sound particularly potent on this tune. The 2009 single 'The King of Nowhere' and old track 'The Curse' end the main set with determination and a real desire to impress and go really quickly because everyone is enjoying them so much.
They come back on for a three song encore of some of their fans favourite material including set closer 'False Affection, False Creation' which has a great beat like a ticking clock to it. This is not the best Diary of Dreams show I have been to and that is saying something because this was brilliant and one of the really good ones I was rushed to hospital after because they used too much dry ice and my eye got effected but this was a show I wouldn't have missed for the World. If you don't know Diary of Dreams and like Goth and Darkwave music then I strongly suggest you check them out because they will be a band you just can't stop listening to.
