Doyle - The Wolfman Rises!!!

April 7th 2018
London, Lounge 666, UK

*****

Thundering set of future classics!!!

Doyle ***** (AKA Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankensteinthe legendary Misfits guitarist... brings tonight his band to Archway in London to play Lounge 666, and after the last time he played recently, I am one of the people that just can't wait. You can see how strong the bands presence is as they come onto the stage, with Doyle a towering figure of menace and the band like Fiends from the underworld... they just look so perfect.

The Misfits craze that has just landed in America, with the return of Glenn Danzig to the band. Has stired up more interest in the members other projects, with Danzig coming to the London, Brixton o2 Academy and Doyle playing here tonight. They open with the title track off their 'Abominator' record, which I absolutely love.

It has pure attitude and heavy riffs and screams, you wouldn't want for more... classic Doyle. You notice from the start of the set, how powerful and what a great voice vocalist Alex 'Wolfman' Story actually has. He is in everyway as good as Misfits original vocalist Glenn Danzig.

He looks all raggedy and worn, but in a good way... as he commands the audience like he was born on the stage. You can see he has learned things in attitude from Danzig and Iggy Pop, but added a taste of himself into his stage persona. The Wolfman keeps going on about love songs and Tina Turner, which is quite funny because it is quite a different contrast from what we are getting tonight.

Also a fan hands him a really nice scrap book at one point, which shows he is gathering fans of his own and that the band is not all about Doyle. What makes me laugh, is that Doyle spends the whole show checking out his muscular physique in the mirrors all round the side of the stage (Because it is a club Venue) for the whole duration of the set.

As he tries to blow the biggest bubble that man has ever seen, with the bubblegum he is chewing. Doyle is a man that must work out, before every show to keep up his looks... and damn he looks cool. He doesn't do as much interaction as he did when I saw the band play at the London, Underworld in Camden, where he was a lot more in your face. But he does what he does, and the sound coming out of his guitar is superb and to the point.

These goes across really well in songs like 'Beast in Me, Headhunter' and 'We belong Dead', which show off the large noise that he can produce. Other highlights in the set included the brilliant 'Cemetery SeXXX', which is really fun and has some good on stage interaction to it, and the closing track 'Hope Hell is Warm' which has so much attitude.

The lack of Misfits songs in the set, does not damage it at all... the bands performance is full of future Punk Metal classics. This is a great set... that I will be talking about for a long time, but I also think this is a start of a future that looks very bright for Doyle and his band.

To be honest I would change the name of the band from Doyle, to a title... I think Abominator is a good name for the band. I think he should do this because every member has very strong musical ability. You have to praise Doyle for a picking a band of brilliant musicians, that compliment his signature sound.
