Dymytry - European Metal heavyweights play small London support slot
****
In their home country they play in Stadium's !!!
Dymytry **** a Heavy Metal band that comes from Prague in the Czech Republic, where they have been become quite a sensation. Last year they played a huge show in Prague at the o2 Arena, to a Sold Out!!! audience. Today in comparism is a bit of a step down, because in the UK people are not yet aware of Dymytry. So they are only the main support at the London, Islington, o2 Academy to Mushroomhead. Yes! in a venue that is World's apart from the huge show they played in Prague. But this is quite normal, a lot of American bands come over to the UK to play in much smaller venues. Because music tastes can be so very different, from country to country. So if you are willing to travel, yoiu really can see your favourite band in a much smaller venue.
They start the set off nicely with live favourite 'Revolt', and the UK audience get to have a glimpse of what Europe has been loving so much from Dymytry. Pure Rock / Metal songs, that just make people happy. Each member has their own identity, like members in Mushroomhead, Slipknot and KISS. With bass player Artur Mikhaylov looking like a futuristic Predator, which makes him stand out strong. Other members sadly like Silenzer are hidden by the blue lights, and stage setup. But they are a little more visable because of big screens behind them. Projecting Dymytry's cool images and videos, from their back catelogue... which are great to watch and make the band stand out more.
The biggest reaction of the evening for Dymytry, was for their song 'Five angry Men'. Which got a lot of crowd participation, and fists in the air. But I think they did struggle on the small stage, without their pyrotechniques and big show. They don't seem to work as well as a band, Dymytry is a band that is designed for the big stage. They need an arena to play to, their show is made that way. And for me personally at times I thought the vocals by singer Alen A.L. Ljubic were not strong enough, you couldn't hear what he was saying and it was all a bit muffled. For a band that made themselves heard in an arena, you would think this would have been one of the strongest elements of their performance. So I really hope that this is sorted, and was only a problem in this smaller venue.
And again like Silenzer, they had to work around Mushroomhead's big water drums. Which I do think they did well, and the show was very enjoyable. They do have the European vibe, that has taken Powerwolf and Amon Amarth to the higher stage. But I do think they need to find a way to relate their songs more to an American and UK audience, if they are going to make the lift to a popular band Worldwide. I would like to see this happen, because I think this would be a fun journey to watch.
