Eric Church - Ends off this years Rock the South festival
****2/3
Mr. Misunderstood Rocks the South
(Rock the South - Festival - Day 3)
Eric Church ****2/3 was one of the highlights of the festival, and an act that everyone had been wanting to see. You know when you say save the best for last, well I feel Rock the South might have just done that. Award winning Singer / Songwriter Eric Church was raised in Granite Falls, North Carolina, Eric bought his first guitar when he wasonly thirteen, and took to it straight away. In his senior year of high school, Eric got a gig in a bar covering Jimmy Buffet songs, while throwing in some of his own originals. Which quickly became more popular than the covers he was first asked to play, so he kept getting more and more shows and creating new unique music.
Eric Church has made it to the top by bringing his best songs, always to his live show, and he does that the Rock the South festival... once again. You really get what you have paid for with Eric Church, you get a huge setlist of twenty songs. So you will get to hear near enough all the songs, you really want to hear by Eric. I don't think you go to many concert these days, and they play a set of so many songs. Normally you get ten to fifteen and they rush through them and play shortened versions. Eric Church gives you the full versions, and even expands some of them.
Eric Church has so many great songs, from the epic and dynamic 'Talladega'. To the heartfelt and memorable 'Mr. Misunderstood', and the song everyone opened their hearts to 'Give me back my Hometown'. Eric has such a great stage presence so as he sings these tracks you are drawn into the performance. For some reason even though he has a band with him, he really stands out as the true star on the stage. He might look like he is the average Joe from the bar from down the road, but something extra special comes out everytime he hits the stage.
Eric Chruch is an artist that is very patriotic and believes in American values, and the American flag. So Rock the South is the perfect festival for him to play, and the way he goes down with the audience full of all his fan. Is really magical, so the songs seem even bigger than they do on the records, Eric is someone who really knows how to play on the big stage, and he is loving every minute of it. So tracks like 'Springsteen', 'Record Year' and 'Bad mother Trucker', are just simple bad ass. And you want him to just repeat playing them, I could have listened to each song all night long.
The set is ended with a beautifully amazing of 'Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones' acoustic, which ends off the set in the best way. If you didn't have enough of Eric Church at Rock the South, then make sure you see him next time he plays. But in the meantime why don't you go down to Eric's Honky Tonk bar in downtown Nashville called Chiefs, it iis a must see if you ever are ever in that town. So have a listen to your favourite Eric Church, sit back and have a beer and relax... and if you went to the Rock the South festival. Think of all the great friends and memories you made, I know it's a weekend I will not forget myself.
