Ezra Collective - No Confusion Feat. Kojey Radical
****
Jazzy Hip Hop for the year 2022
Ezra Collective are a London five piece, who first came together as teenagers back in 2012. This happened during education initiative eductation at the London, South Bank Centre. Their new single 'No Confusion' Kojey Radical shows off the band at their best, mixing up grooves, Afrobeat, Rap and Hip Hop with Jazz and Funk. I really love the Retro chilled vibe to this track, it really takes me back in time. And with a lot of music during the Covid-19 lockdowns, going back in time with a new hint. I think there really is a place of Ezra Collective in the mainstream in 2022, think Jazz meets Fun lovin Criminals' in a blend with So Solid Crew, Wu Tang Clan attitude while going back to the Acid Jazz feel of the 90's.
The band next year will go out on tour, which will see a climax at the London, o2 Academy in Brixton. Which I think is perfect for the band, you get a little bit of feel of the Brixton vibe in this track. Which has great flow, and some really Funky moments in it. The song comes of the bands brand new album ''Where I'm meant to Be', which will be released on November 4th. 'No Confusion' is a great celebration of both Nigerian style and culture, and tribute to one of the country's musical heroes; the late, great drummer, Tony Allen. A pioneer of the Afrobeat of the sound and longtime musical director of Fela Kuti's band, Allen was also an inspirational friend and mentor to Ezra Collective's bandleader Femi Koleoso, who knew him as 'Uncle Tony'.
The members of the collective are so musically talented, and you can hear this in every moments of the song. Like the interesting and complexed drum patterns, to the grooves and licks. The track is so catchy, and you can put it on over and over again and not get bored. You hear something different everytime, it has that many layers and is so well put together. If you love Aftobeat, Jazz, Rap and Hip Hop, then I think you will love this track. And you must check out more music by Ezra Collective, because they are going to be one of your favourite act to listen to and see live.
