Farewell, My Love - Finally make it over to the UK
July 27th 2015
London, Camden Barfly, UK
***1/2
American sweethearts hit the Barfly!
Farewell, My Love ***1/2 It's taken a long time for this band to hit the UK, and I would have thought they would be playing much bigger venues. But then again they have not really been pushed over here, and that is a real shame. Because their music is really complexed and well put together, attracting them to a big following in the US.
Classified as Emo / Screamo... Farewell, My Love emulate the likes of Vampires Everywhere! (Early Material), From first to Last, Falling in Reverse and Escape the Fate... but at the same time giving off a almost Hot Topic type of clean cut pretty boy image. I think this is one show that London Mckuffey is really looking forward to, he is walking around the venue with a big smile on his face and has a T-Shirt saying "I love London" a statement that could mean two different meanings in this case.
Strangely this is a band that only have one studio album, the 2013 'Gold Tattoos'. But they do have three awesome EP's, which mean they have enough material to pull out the best nuggets for this show. The nice thing about Farewell, My Love is that they really work as a unit and know what each member is doing at all times, meaning they come across very well on stage.
I do think their sound could have been a little bigger, because you can really tell the difference with the intensity of their sound and co-headliners Ashestoangels sound when they come on stage after them. This shows them up a little, and I don't believe was really their fault. Maybe they needed longer in sound check to sort it out.
The good thing is that it really doesn't matter, cause their songwriting is absolutely superb. This is shown in songs like 'Portraits' and the absolutely fabulous 'Mirror, Mirror', which is the big highlight in the bands set. With 'Portraits' you really see where Falling in Reverse singer Ronnie Radke, got his inspiration from. They have really got that Emo / Screamo sound down to a tea, and other band really should take note.
I really like singer Chad Kowal tone, it is like Ronnie Raske (Falling in Reverse) meets Danny Disastr (Live like Glass) so it really appeals to me and makes me pay attention even more. Also guitarist Robby Creasey has real stage presence looking like an Emo version of Dee Snider (Twisted Sister). which in my eyes is a brilliant thing because I love Dee. Think it's the make up and the curly blonde and black hair that does this.
It's also nice that they give English fans something they never got, like with old track 'The Hardest Heart' off the bands first EP 'A dance you won't Forget'. You can see that their are fans that where really looking forward to this one, because the crowd get's really lively during it. I think if the English fans knew their material better, the band would have got an even better greeting over here.
They end the set with 'Make Believe' and 'Just another Soul' and you realise their set is far to short, and we want more of the brilliant Emo sound. Especially when the brilliant 'Paper Forts' is missing from the bands set, which is a real shame. I would love to see this band again in the UK, headlining their own tour and maybe on the bill at one of our festivals. But for now all I have to say is Farwell, My Love.
