Fearless Vampire Killers - FVK don't 'Regret' a thing!!!
****
The new age of FVK is born!!!
Fearless Vampire Killers **** are a band that in the press and music have really been offered the golden ticket and have been let into the chocolate factory for a good look around.. but I'm not one hundred percent sure they have totally taken advantage of it yet. I would have expected with the amount of press coverage that they would have been playing much bigger venues by now as a headline act.
I think this might be because they over complicate their songs too much sometimes and maybe the two vocalist thing just confuses things somewhat, Saying this they have two very different vocalists with two very different and equally different styles. And both distinctive vocalists have good style and both are characters are equally deserving in their own right.
FVK can show what they are really made of with less complicated songs, like 'Neon and the dance Floor' and the new single 'Regret'. Both these songs have a more commercial vibe to them, and could possibly take them to the next level. Even though on the recorded version of 'Regret', I think Kier's vocals could be a little stronger. This shows in tonight set, even though the song stands out as one of the strongest in their performance.
Tonight's bill is very good with up and coming bands New Years Day and Like a Storm, also being on the tour alongside headliners Escape the Fate. All bands on the bill appealing to pretty much the same audience. So tonight's show has been a total Sell Out!!! for weeks. So if you didn't manage to get a ticket for this great show, then you really missed out.
They started their set to my surprise with 'Say what you want from Me' and 'Maeby', which are great tracks... but I think they have stronger in their arsenal that they have chosen to leave out of their set. Like 'Bow ties on dead Guys, Could we burn Darling?' and the brilliant 'Paris in Flames'. But I think Fearless Vampire Killers (Now pronounced FVK), are all about the new songs. Like 'Like Bruises' which has been added into the set for good measures.
Also the band have got a more serious look these days, out goes the talc and in goes the slick black jacket and really tight skinny jeans. Yes! they have all gone a bit Emo these days, if they all had beards like drummer Luke you would say "Hipster!!!"... but he looks very Rock 'n' Roll and is one of the nicest guys in the music industry... so it really works for him. I have to say though I think if vocalist Laurence Beveridge worked a little on his nerves, he would be a force to be reckoned with.
He has a great persona and his moments of madness and evilness really stand out as one of the highlights in the bands set. Also Shane Sumner (Aka Cyrus Barone) has really come into his own, going crazy on the guitar like a legend in the Grunge field. A lot of people love FVK and the new EP 'Bruises' is some of the bands best work, and they are getting better on the live circuit.
So I think only time will tell with the Fearless Vampire Killers, and see if they get reach the same level as Black veil Brides, who they have supported many times on tour. Or even All time Low and You me at Six, I think maybe they need to take time out from excessively touring and work on their music and plan how they can do this in the next two years. But tonight's show, at the London, Electric Ballroom in Camden was a move in the right direction.
