Fearless Vampire Killers - Show they can shine as headliners!
****1/2
FVK are so much better as the main act!
Fearless Vampire Killers ****1/2 have recently supported In this Moment and Black veil Brides on tour, started off the second date of their 'Unbreakable Hearts' UK tour with a eagerness to shine like the up and coming stars they are. I have said that they have got a little complacent recently, but they start off their set as a completely different band.... a band with a fire inside that is ready to be unleashed on the venues in the UK.
Starting the set off with Laurence on vocals for a change and he starts things off with the single 'Neon in the dance Halls', a song that is becoming a firm live favourite. He commands the stage like a veteran in his game, while fans go crazy for every moment like he is a teen idol of the Pop World. They go on with 'Batten down the Hatches' that just launches you into a fast paced World. This song sounds very My chemical Romance Esq. and you can see the band is heavily influence by them. The similarities of the two bands were ever present on the early FVK material and it seems to be coming back out more recently. With this song you also realise that your going to get to hear some track you have not heard on their support tours.
They continue on with another fan favourite 'Bow ties on dead Guys' which has some nice moments to it with all the band providing vocals to it in places. Kier Kemp really shines on the next track 'Say what you Want', making it sound huge and the chorus really memorable. So when they give you some old gems like 'Fetish to Finite, Exploding heart Disorder' and 'All hallows Evil' they all seem to have a new life to them. These songs don't seem out of place in the set and when fans join in with the chorus of the last mentioned song you realise they are as popular as they where before.
Is nice to see Drew on the keyboards for 'Unbreakable Hearts' the title track to the bands new album. This is a real nice ditty that you can sing a long to easierly. You can see why they have added it to their support sets as well as their headline sets. They then do something really magical the drummer Luke goes on keyboard, to play beautiful chords. He is joined by Kier on vocals for his finest moment and the best singing I have ever seen him he do. They sing the track of the new album 'Brave the Night', this song could have been done by a Pop or boy band. It is really heartfelt and touching and really showed what the band could d if they put their mind to it.
This for me put the band up a level and showed that they could get really big in the future if they put their mind to it. 'In wondrous Rage' also shows it is one of the bands best songs and really gets people going again. They new material is going down in a great way, so when they close the main set with recent single 'Meaby' (Which did very well for them on YouTube and the video channels) people are left wanting more. They come back on for the brilliant 'Could we burn Darling' and 'City falls to Dust', two songs that are always welcomed in the bands set.
The set went by in the blink of an eye so when we get a second and final encore of early song 'At war with the Thirst', you just can't believe it's the end of the set. If this is what a Fearless Vampire Killers headline set in 2015 is like, then they are a band that is going to be around for a very long time. I can't wait to see where they go from here because I really enjoyed their set in Oxford, it's just a shame that the support bands really didn't fit the bill. Yes! it was a long wait until they came on... but it was well worth it, they really impressed me tonight.
