GraVil - Thoughts of a rising Sun
*****
Outstanding debut from British Metallers!!!
Having been kicking the UK underground since 2007 releasing various EP's and singles and finalising their line up GraVil have unleashed the kraken that is their debut 'Thoughts of a rising Sun' Mixing melodic thrash with symphonics and groove layden riffs. Re-recording the best of their past releases mixed with new tracks,'Thoughts of a rising Sun' is a finely tuned faultless album.
From the opening 'Structurally Unsound' the band lay their cards on the table. With blistering drums, fantastic twin lead guitar. Grant Stacey has a great scream but more notably on this track he pulls a great clean vocal on the chorus. The riffs are fast and furious but don't loose themselves. 'Beyond Reprieve' easily stands aside anything by DevilDriver and it's chorus is awesome. 'Something worth Chasing' is the band at their melodic best, it's catchy as hell and is destined to be a future classic. The galloping, shredding with Grant's scream that opens 'The Eyes of the Spartans' is simply gorgeous! It needs to be pointed out that the lead work on the guitars is superb throughout the album.
All round you can't ask for more from a debut. A fantastic mix of Devildriver, Cradle of Filth, (later day) Children of bodem. A solid, varied piece of modern Metal. Why are you still reading this? Go!
