Hammerfall - 'Let the hammer fall' at Hammerfest
****1/2
Hammerfall aise Hammerfest High!!!
Hammerfall ****1/2 - Before the main review I would just like to point out: These guys are true professionals. After some confusion with their gear not arriving, Hammerfall managed to borrow equipment from some of the other artists on the bill.
Fredrik and Oscar wore makeshift stage clothes, but hey, the show must go on!!!. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden and signed with Napalm Records, the band formed in April 1993 and have since kept that classic NWOBHM sound alive. Frontman Joacim Cans is excellent at what he does, holding the crowd in the palm of his hands.
Oscar Dronjak and Pontus Norgen play no nonsense straight heavy riffs mixed with majestic melodies. Bass man Fredrik Larsson thunders his way through each song with ease, whilst pounding a steady beat on drums is Johan Koleberg.
These Viking guys work the stage well and the atmosphere in the room was joyous. As soon as they started to play 'Let the hammer Fall' the crowd reaction was awesome. Finishing with the catchy 'Hammer High' with its sing-a-long chorus, the room was full of energy and a lot inflatable hammers.
An all round top class performance, and considering they had to do the show with borrowed equipment, absolutely outstanding. I really recommend you give Hammerfall a try, you will be really pleased you did.
