Hannah Boleyn - So OK

(CD Single Review)

***

Not losing my head over the other Boleyn girl!!!

Hannah Boleyn is a singer songwriter and ‘So OK’ is the second single to be taken from her upcoming debut album ‘The Boleyn Affair’ due this summer. Her first single ‘When you’re Gone’ was play listed on Radio 2 so she is starting to get herself recognised. Though I do wonder is she should be careful with the titles seemingly leaning towards tales of troubled love lives, I have been watching ‘Wolf Hall’ recently and love troubles for people called Boleyn can end badly.

Despite it being about love, loss and emotions the song seems to have quite a cheery disposition about it and be quite an upbeat Pop song, but then I guess love and loss has been the staple for Pop songs for a long time and this is certainly preferable to a dirge. If it has been a bad day a Poppy song on the radio can make things feel better anyway. This is a good radio friendly song too, which is good and bad in my view in that I can imagine it coming on and would be mildly intrigued but afraid to say I cannot see myself remembering it five minutes later.

Now it is not a bad song, far from it just that it sounds like so many other songs. It is sort of poppy singer songwriter by numbers. Probably great for the hit factory but I like something that a bit more of a unique edge something that makes you sit and take notice rather than hear in the background while ordering your skinny coffee on the way to work. I thought her last single ‘When you’re Gone’ had more depth, so it’s not quite off with her head yet.
