The Hush - US Indie-Pop sensation talk to Helen Westby!!!

Helen Westby talks to new sensations The Hush!!!
The Hush's Pat Macdonald caught up with Helen Westby to talk to the band that have recently supported McFly about what is happening in their World!

Music TrespassI have to start by saying, I hadn’t actually heard of you guys before I was sent a track from your new album 'Memo' I’ve had the chance to listen to this single 'Arkansas' a few times now, and I have to say I’m impressed by it, and the way it sticks in your head very quickly! OK, so having explained this, I believe you’ve been around as a band since 2006? What brought you guys together as a band in the first place?

Pat: First off thanks very much for the compliment on the single. We are all really proud of it. The band came together when our Vocalist / Guitarist Noel moved from the west coast to Boston.  At the time he had been writing what became our self titled first album and needed a band to perform it. One of the first band members to join was our drummer Barry who I worked with at the warehouse of a local independent music retailer. The band went thru a few line-up changes over the years.  I'm the third bassist and I joined about four years ago.

Music Trespass: You consider yourselves as an Indie-Pop band, but again, having listened to your single, it reminds me very much of the 80’s Pop-Rock or Brit-Pop. Is this the kind of music you’d listened to at some point, or who and what were your influences?

Pat: Absolutely! In the late 90's early 2000's I worked for HMV in Cambridge Massand was on a steady diet of The VerveBlurRadioheadThe Stone Roses and anything else that I could get my hands on. So for me personally that was a huge influence, as well as the music that turned me on as a kid, which was classic British Rock / Pop The BeatlesThe Rolling StonesThe WhoQueen, and Led Zeppelin.

Music TrespassHave you got an intensive UK tour schedule booked?

Pat: We can’t wait to get over to play some shows in the UK.  Right now, however, we’re about half-way through recording a new album and that’s where our focus lies. But, we’re eyeing either the Fall or following Spring to get across the pond.

Music TrespassHave you toured much outside of the USA?

Pat: No. We have only toured the states. Like I said, hopefully we can remedy that in the near future.

Music TrespassYou’ve had a very good response from people who saw you at a couple of music festivals in America, so are you going be playing at any UK or European Festivals in the near future?

Pat: There is nothing more we would like than to play festivals especially the ones in the UK you have some of the best and most famous of the big ones. It seem like the UK knows how to do it right. But, again no plans at the moment.

Music TrespassAre there any bands out there at the moment that you admire or look up to?

Pat: For me there are quite a few but the big ones are Wilco and Radiohead. If for the fact they keep moving forwards on each album and not allowing themselves to get pigeon holed, and that's worth looking up to.

Music TrespassWho would you most like to be a support band for on tour?

Pat: That's easy… Wilco or Radiohead. Just for the fact you would have to be on your toes every night, also I think the music we make would go over well with the audiences of both bands.

Music Trespass: Best of luck with your new album, I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Have fun on tour!
