It Bites - Bring Rotherham back to the 80's !!!
****
A nice touch of the 80's at a Prog Rock Festival!!!
It Bites **** If you are a fan of 80's music like me you will know who these MelodicPop masters are. It Bites were very popular in the 1980's and were seen going up and down the charts on regular occasions. The band was really interesting and mixed with Marillion Esq. Progressive Rock sequences with catchy Pop choruses of fellow tour friends Go West.
Opening with one of their mid table hits 'Kiss like Judas' they begin to delight the audience of the Magna centre in Rotherham and you can hear they sound as good as they ever did when they started. They then break into up tempo number 'Ghosts' which makes you move your feet. The bass is funky the keyboards are killer and you remember hearing this song the first time round and even has hints of AOR in it which is totally fitting because the AOR festival is going on next door.
After totally falling in love again with the track 'Ghosts' the band tease you with 'The Big Machine' which has twinkley keyboards and an anthem Esq backing before taking you through an exploration of the track 'The wind that shakes the Barley'which seems to be a very long version on show today. This is a Progressive Rock song in the first degree and kind of shows you why they are on the Prog stage today. It has so many turns and twists and is very experimental and interesting.
They continue where 'The wind that shakes the Barley' leaves off with the brilliant 'Old man and the Angel' which is a Pop song again with Progressive Rock tendencies and played with extra interesting technical ability tonight and is a great lead onto their biggest hit.
'Calling all the Heroes' went into the top ten in the 80's hitting the high height of number six in the charts which launched It Bites into every ones life as a household name. It's also the song that everyone has been waiting for tonight, you can see that because everyone is on their feet jumping around singing "Shooting up the town, Boys!!!" this brings a massive sense of fun to the festival. It Bites was a nice touch on a serious bill, but they are not just Pop geniuses they write great Progressive Pop songs and I will be dusting off all my It Bites 12 inchs off and be playing them all month. I really enjoyed this touch of the 80's on this bill.
