Jim Bob - Gives you a few surprises!!!
***3/4
Taking you for a little ridealong!!!
(Bearded Theory Festival - Pallat Stage)
Jim Bob ***3/4 is best known for being the frontman of Carter the unstoppable sex Machine, one of the only bands ever to be banned from the Glastonbury festival. because Fruitbat, annoyed at the shortening of their headline set because of other bands overrunning insulted Michael Eavis and was subsequently banned from the festival forever. So it is a nice treat that Jim Bob is here at the Bearded Theory festival, showing they still can play a UK festival.
And they show that, by instantly going into a track with political undertones called 'Stuff the Jubilee!', something Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, might want to do in future themselves. I like the track 'Sebastian's gone on a Ridealong', which is the Jim Bob track that I picked for my Bearded Theory playlist on my iPod. Following this is a little treat of the Carter song 'Do re Me, So far so Good', which is greeted so well by the audience.
Jim Bob has a slightly different look these days, with a 2-Tone black and white Punk look with of course signature shades which he throws into the crowd at the end of his set. He had a very distinctive look back in the 90's - 2000's which a shaved head with a little bit of hair coming down of his face. I always personally thought he looked so cool, and really wanted to look the same. But my mum strongly disagreed with this, and would never let me have a Carter cut.
I personally would have picked different Carter songs to add to today's set, I would have went with 'Rubbish' and 'Glam Rock Cops'. But that is my personal choice, so I don't think everyone would feel the same. I think this is the thing with Carter, they have a catalog of so many amazing songs. So I think if you asked one hundred people, everyone would say a different selection of songs. If you had not got enough of Dexy's on the Friday, then you can have a little bit more. Because Jim Bob has added the track 'Geno' to today's set, which is a rare treat. But of course it's when he played the Carter hits you hear the biggest applause, so 'Lean on me I won't fall Over' and 'Bloodsport for All'.
I'm sure are the highlights of most people's day, I know I really enjoyed hearing them. But I have to say I do love some of Jim Bob's solo stuff, but I think they might be even better a little up tempo. The crowd goes crazy when fellow Carter member Fruitbat comes to the stage to perform with him, before his set with his band Abdoujaparov on one of the other stages. That really is a nice end to his solo set, give the crowd what they want... well he did. I really love Jim Bob, as I said before he is one of my heroes from when I was a kid. But for me the set needed to be a little more rawkus, at times I felt it was a little bit too mellow. This is a real shame, because Jim Bob is a character with a great attitude and I want to see him play songs which are fast and in your face.
