John Garcia - S/T

(CD Album Review)

****
Stoner Legend goes out alone!!!

With John Garcia's public profile being at an all time high with the Kyuss reunion which evolved into Vista Chino nows the best time to dip his toes into solo water's and why the hell not? With a body of work like his many lesser an artist have put out solo records. One thing that stands out on first listen is that John hasn't suddenly done a left turn and dropped something completely out of kilter for the music he is known for. If your a fan of any of his previous band's you will find plenty to enjoy here. John Garcia knows what he loves, what he is good at and has delivered a strong confident slab of solid material. It has the big riffs, the Bluesy mellow moments everything he is known for is present on this album and his voice sounds richer then ever.

You only has to listen to 'Rolling Stoned' to know all about this. He is so cool he makes a line like "If you leave me, I will kill you" sound romantic!. 'Flower' is another rocking song that's easy on the ear. A highlight is actually the track 'Confusion' which consist's simply of John's vocal's backed by a distorted guitar which plays sequence of power chords it's a beautiful mellow track were you can feel the desert heat. '5000 miles' is a simple but awesome track that has a huge chorus that's instantly recognizable. The best thing about this album is the essence of what makes it work and that is that it is so simple. It's a no nonsense, eleven tracks each song bleeding into the next and after a couple of listen's it feels like you have known the album all your life and it fits in with the collection of John Garcia album's you own. Come on, who has one Kyuss album or one Unida album?... It's instantly familiar, it plays itself. Each track does what it needs to do before rolling to the next song. When it Rocks!!! it Rocks hard and when it doesn't boy does it roll! The surprise of the year. Now go get it before the summer ends!
