Jordan Red - Hands that built the World
****2/3
Anthem-tastic Alternative Rock release!!!
Jordan Red is an powerful London Alternative Rock / Nu-Metal duo that consists of Dan Leigh (Vocals) and Dan Baker (Guitar), they have an American chart friendly Rock edge to them, that even verges on Emo Rock at times like bands like Black veil Brides / Young Guns / Yashin / and Pierce the Veil at times in some songs like opening track 'Awake'. The single 'Spilling the Blood' verges on Melodic and Progressive Rock, mixing up bands like Leprous with American Rock like The Dreaming, Daughtry and Stabbing Westward. This continues on the third track on the album 'Beautiful Monster', which is a killer Rock anthem. I really love this track and how singer Dan Leigh lifts his voice at points, it's really catchy and is a feel good Alternative Rock song.
And you can really see why they sound like this on 'Way Down', where I can really hear the elements that producer Romesh Dodangoda (Bring me the Horizon / Bullet for my Valentine / Don Broco) has added in the mix. The title track for the record is just epic 'Hands that build the World', has so many lifts and up's and downs... and is so well put together at the same time. I really love the stops and starts in the songs, this would be so good to hear live. If this track is anything to go by, they are going to really hit the Rock scene with the bang. Like the opening riffs to 'Don't let the Heaven's Fall', which all almost sounds like Pop band Lawson or Rubylux at points. It's a true anthem, and you don't hear many of thous... these days.
The album is really radio and chart friendly, and is what I really want to hear from an Alternative Rock band. The Lost Society tried to re-invent themselves from Thrash Metal to sound like this, but I don't think they quite got there. I think this is because Jordan Red, have been true to themselves and always have sounded this way. They have not tried to change their style to fit in with the music market, they are just true Alternative Rock which verges on Metal and Nu-Metal at points.
Maybe the next single should be the brilliant 'Freak Show', which just gets stuck in your head like a speeding car without any breaks. I really like the bands lyrical content, which is great on every song. And they have not tried to over do any song, they know what they are... and they love being catchy. They continue the high speed with 'Before they burn us All', which sounds a little like the band Furthest drive Home. The album is very consistent in it's quality, and every song is great. Like the beautiful ballad friendly 'It calls my Name', which gives a little flair.
I might have kept the album at eight or nine songs, even though I love every track. Just to make them stand out even more than they already do, because by the time I get to 'We are Everybody' and 'Cast a Flame'... I feel the album maybe should have ended. And this is not saying anything against these tracks, it's just saying I think a perfect album is about that length. But that would have been a real shame, because maybe they would have left off the end song 'Get Up' which is really hard hitting and in your face and one of my favourite songs. But in general this is a real killer Alternative Rock record, that you should own. If you love bands like All time Low, Sleeping with Sirens, Furthest drive Home, Black veil Brides, Daughtry, Yashin and Young Guns then you can't go throng with 'Hands that built the World'.
