Keane - Show they can headline an English festival in style!
****
Keane triumphant as a great headline band!
Keane **** (Pleasant Valley Stage) end the Saturday at Cornbury and it is nice to see them headlining a festival for a change, normally being one off the top spot playing in the sunlight at festivals all round the country. Tonight they give the fans just what they want a collection of songs including a lot of material of their first two album ‘Hopes and Fears’ and ‘Under the Iron Sea’ along with some new material of their album ‘Strangeland’ like ‘Silenced by the Night’ which is really well written an beautiful at the same time and is a great moment in tonight’s set.
The whole stage is set up with ‘Strangeland’ above it in lights and singer Tom looks really at home on the Cornbury stage while he sings classic hit ‘Bend and Break’,other great moments in the set included a great stripped down version of ‘Bedshaped’ a song I thought would be hard to do live because of the high parts in it, This is a nice slow song that goes a long with other great moments in the set like a piano vocal very of ‘Try Again’ and a solo by Tom of ‘Your eyes Open’ which shows he coming into his own as a frontman.
‘Is it any Wonder?’ a song that has always upbeat song that really gets the crowd going and is a fantastic sing-a-long live. Along with the massive hits ‘Everybody’s Changing’ and ‘Somewhere only we Know’ which are still so popular even though they were off an album that was released quite a while ago now, they have not faltered in popularity. They end the main set with ‘Crystal Ball’ which sounds better than it has ever done, before they come back on for a one song encore of the Queen song 'Under Pressure' and it sounds amazing. Rumours had been going round the Keane were past their best if that is true I would have liked to have seen them at their best.
