Kim Wilde - Injecting Rock into Let's Rock
***
Not as wild on this one
Kim Wilde *** was next up to entertain the masses at Let's Rock Bristol, the 80’s extravaganza, now only having three more acts of herself, Howard Jones and Gloria Gaynor, we have already been treated to the likes of Heaven 17 and the Village People. She certainly still looked the part with an eighties Rock chick look, decked out in her leather jacket. She was aiming to inject the Rock into Lets Rock.
The first hit she treated us too was ‘Cambodia’ where we are asked to join in if we were not too young to remember it, I think most of the crowd were old enough too (though I was only two when it came out, so real lasting memories for me). She stated she was going to “play a load of old songs”, not without being unkind surely that is the whole point in this sort of festival.
That was perhaps the only down side of this set, she did not really click with the crowd as much, Village People must have been tough to follow to be fair, but at one point she started talking about her roses in her garden which got a muted response at best. Some people were already trickling out the door at 7.30pm too, again due to the nature of the festival I guess some people were only there to see certain acts and being quite family orientated not everybody wants to stay until 11pm.
It got going a bit more when she went through more of the hits, hers and a couple of covers including Republica’s ‘Ready to Go’ and Dead or Alive ‘You spin me Round (Like a Record)’. ‘I won't change the way that I Feel’ also got an airing, the set closed on, of course, ‘Kids in America’ which ended the set with the crowd joining in the “whoa” and “La-la-la-la”. Being honest not the best set of the day, but there had been quite stiff competition.
