King Creature - Chat Metal to Music Trespass

16th April 2016
St. Austell, The Band Rooms, Cornwall, UK

King Creature meet with Music Trespass

Pete Webb catches up with the lads from King Creature to get the new on their new album.

Music Trespass: King Creature formed around three years ago, and in that time you have played at Bloodstock, Hard Rock Hell and  even supported the mighty Motorhead pretty much on your own doorstep. Where do you see the band in three years time, and do you think your meteoric rise will continue?

Kellaway: Portugal

Jack: Woah!!!, three years, I don't know. Just doing what we're doing, playing to more audiences and bigger places.

Matt: Get bigger and better.

Kellaway: Trying to climb the ladder with what we're doing, one rung at a time. Yeah!!!, three years is a longtime, I could be dead by then!

Jack: As far as the meteoric rise is concerned, I hope so.

Matt: We've done the record now, well the majority of the work on the record, we've just got to finish it off.

Music Trespass: Cool, and about the new record; You have just returned from Abbey Road Studios in London, how did it feel to go and record in such a prestigious studio?

Kellaway: Amazing, it was amazing. It felt like it definitely had a vibe.

Dave: We're going back there next week.

Jack: It was surprisingly more comfortable than we thought it was 'gonna be. The whole place, Abbey Road synonymous with The Beatles and everything, we thought it would be pretentious but it's not. It's a lot more chilled out than we thought it was 'gonna be.

Kellaway: Everyone that works there was really nice.

Matt: They were really keen to work with us 'cos we're a little bit different to the average people they have in there. They've got a nice little bar downstairs and we'd all get chatting after work.

Music Trespass: What details can you tell me about the new album?

Jack: It will be finished!

Matt: It's a ten track album coming out, we recorded thirteen or fourteen but we agreed to do ten... I believe.

Music Trespass: Is it due out this year or aiming for a 2017 release.

Kellaway: It should be due out this year, summertime I think, but who knows. At the minute it's not finished and we'll spend as long as we need to spend on it to make it sound as good as possible.

Music Trespass: Is it all new material or a mixture with some fan favorites?

Kellaway: There is new stuff but it's a mixture. Most of the world haven't heard us so it will be new to them. A lot of the songs are tried and tested locally.

Dave: More newer material than old material but some from the 'King Creature' EP.

Jack: There will be sides of the band people would not have seen before.

Kellaway: There are tracks on there that we can't do live.

Jack: There are different sides but we won't be completely unrecognizable. It's 'gonna be a King Creature album.

Music Trespass: Your current material is available through digital downloads, Spotify and Youtube. With it being Record Store Day today, are you planning any vinyl releases?

Kellaway: We have got a 7 inch double A side coming out. It will be a coloured limited edition release.

Jack: It's a sort of spacer between the 'King Creature' EP and the album, trying to keep people interested.

Matt: It's two killer rock songs.

Music Trespass: Will we be hearing either tune tonight?

Dave: You will, both actually.

Kellaway: You'll have to have a guess at which ones though!

Music Trespass: Before you left Cornwall to go to Abbey Road to record the album, you returned to The New Inn in Tywardreath where you had your first gig. How did it feel to return?

Kellaway: Louder.

Jack: LOUDER!

Kellaway: It's a small room and it was great turnout. A lot of people came out to see us and they couldn't get in to see us. A lot of people couldn't even get in the bar!

Music Trespass: What about the other end of the spectrum, supporting Motorhead at the Eden Sessions?

Dave: Sh*t, that was f**king amazing!

Kellaway: The opposite.

Matt: It was an amazing experience.

Jack: For me it was a dream come true, Motorhead have been my favorite band since I was nine and Lemmy is my hero

Dave: It was a weird coincidence, me and Jack were talking, wouldn't it be amazing if a Rock or Metal band played at the Eden Sessions. A week later they announce Motorhead are playing. That's just too weird.

Music Trespass: It's a shame they haven't announced any Rock or Metal acts this year.

Matt: Black Sabbath!!! (raises devil horns)

Dave: I heard a rumor they'd booked Judas Priest, I don't know if that's true.

Matt: We were the penultimate band to play with Motorhead on British soil. I walked off with Kellaway to stage left, these guys went the other side, we saw so many people going nuts. The backdrop was lit up, woah!!! it was amazing.

Kellaway: Normally it's such a split crowd for support acts, but there was a lot of people. We walked on half hour later and it was just, f**k! The crowd had quadrupled.

Jack: It was the biggest crowd a support act had generated at Eden Sessions.., ever.

Matt: The main thing was we were perceived well, they liked us.

Music Trespass; The Metal community's bone of contention: Metallica or Megadeth

Dave: Ah sh*t Megadeth, but Metallica are my favorite band. Based on guitar work, Megadeth.
Matt: Go for Metallica.
Jack: I'll take Metallica.
Kellaway: Slayer, I only like early Metallica.

Music Trespass: Finally, if you could bring any deceased musician back to life, who would you choose and why?

Jack: Lemmy!!! Because he's God!
Matt: Dime.
Kellaway: Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy.
Dave: I have to say Shawn Lane. He's a shredder and a half.
Kellaway: Who is he? Who did he play for?
Dave: He jus did his own thing, f**king mental.
Matt: He sound's like a f**king wrestler, pick someone we know.
Dave: Gary Moore, can't believe you don't know who Shawn Lane is!

Music Trespass: Thank you for your time gentlemen, hope you have a great time tonight.

Kellaway: Thanks for coming down to the show.
