Korn - Show they are a Head of the game!

June 28th 2013
Graspop Festival, Belgium

****1/2

Explosive set by Korn now Head is back in the mix!!!

Korn ****1/2 (Main Stage) have Brian 'Head' Welch back in the line-up and you can see from the moment they start that he brings something to the bands sound. The band lost fans after he originally left the band with the rest of the members taking a dark less commercial edge to Korn's music, taking the band into different sytles even including Dub-Step on the 2012 album 'The Path to Totality' where they teamed up with mastermind of the genre Skrillex. Songs off this album including 'Narcissistic Cannibal' and 'Get Up!' are nicely greeted with approval and a lot of people really respected Korn for trying something different and getting away with it so well.

You can see that the techniques that Head brought to the band are back again and songs like 'Blind' and 'No place to Hide' are back at their best again. Also the addition of Ray Luzier on drums seems to be working really nicely for the band. His stick work and drumming style really adds something to the bands live show with intricate drum sequences added in, on the tracks that could be enhanced for the live show.

This is a great well put together set, that included something for everyone with every song coming from different albums from their career. Opening with 'Blind' one of the tracks that brought Korn to stardom back in 1994, Everyone knows it from the first distinctive chords then Jonathan Davis brings in the "Are you Ready?" and you know it's time for another great Korn live performance.

Then they break into the quickly over 'Twist' then the awesome sounding 'Falling away from Me' before they bring it at you 2013 style Dub-Step with 'Narcissistic Cannibal' which seems to be a real crowd favourite. The musicianship of Korn is second to none and they can really mix up the genres so all this sounds so great and their stage presence is still as in your face as it has ever been but given the extra pleasure of Head being back in the mix.

The bag piped lead nursery rhyme which is 'Shoots and Ladders' is as good as always, but it is tracks like 'Here to Stay' and 'Got the Life' that sound the best tonight being a full force of Nu-Metal riffs provided by Head and Munky and great spot on vocals provided by Jonathan. It might be raining and the crowd might be soaked but nobody cares. This is Korn back at their best, and when the end with 'Freak on a Leash' you realised you have seen a classic Korn set. The future is bright for Korn, I think their next album will be their best to date and I can't wait to hear it. An amazing set at the Graspop Festival for Korn which was enjoyed by everyone.
