Lamb of God - Make a triumphant return to the Bloodstock Festival

August 14th 2022
Bloodstock Festival, Catton Hall and Gardens, UK

****1/2

Storming the weekend into submission

Lamb of God ****1/2 are on the verge of releasing their new album 'Omens' on October 7th via Epic Records, and are now bigger than they ever have been before. And I have to say one of the most anticipated bands at the whole of Bloodstock, with only a few other bands like Red Method, Machine Head, Jinjer and Mercyful Fate on the tips of everyones lips. Lamb of God have worked hard to become one of the most respected, and popular Metal bands around. But not selling out at all, they are still as brutal as they have ever been before. With a back catelogue of songs, that any band would be proud of.

There are not many bands that can command a festival stage, quite like Lamb of God do. Their intensity in the outdoor arena, is quite something to see. I have always like Lamb of God's album imagery, they have some great designs. And these designs are scatter all around the wooden fenses partitions, advertsing the new record. You really can't believe that Lamb of God still sound so fresh, they started way back in 1994 in Richmond, Virginia... probably not realising that they would be in the future headlining one of the UK's best Metal festival if not the best one.

Songs like 'Laid to Rest' and 'Now you've got something to die for' are now Metal staples, and songs you could not think of being out of their set. One of the records I most listened to when I first started listening to Lamb of God properly was 'As palaces Burn', which I loved a track on it called 'Ruin'. Which always sound great, when it's added into their set. The members of the band seem to move around the stage, covered in smoke, as they through their hair up and down in time to the music. I think the whole crowd is headbanging to the last band post people will be seeing at Bloodstock 2022, and they want to make the most of it. They want to end their weekend on a high, and with a performance like Lamb of God put on... they really weren't disappointed.

The title track to the new record 'Omens', is a nice addition to the set. I really love that they play 'Hourglass', they really give everyone what they want. So by the time they come to the end their set with two of my favourite Lamb of God tracks 'Laid to Rest' and 'Redneck', you really don't want it to end. Their performance seems to go by in a blink of an eye, to what could only be a almost flawless set. Problem for me sometimes with Lamb of God is that they have already set the bar so high, so where do they go through here. Well it's a journey I want to take, and see what is next for a band that is fast becoming one of my favourites.
