Oi, Oi, Oi it's another great set by The Last Resort!

The Last Resort ****1/2 have been riding on a high with their new album 'This is my England (Skinhead Anthems 3)' being their greatest yet. Tonight they are supporting the American band Templars that do not make it over to the UK very often. This is 'Oi, Oi the Gig' and it's going to be one hell of a night, with The Last Resort by far have the biggest crowd. The London legends make good on this and use the time they have to put on a gig you will not forget. The thing that has always put The Last Resort apart from other Punk and Oi bands is their use of Metal guitar riffs in their material, now provided by a menacing killer guitar player named Beefy.

The new album has evolved commercial, I think because of the band hanging out a lot with Rancid especially Lars Frederiksen (Rancid, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Old firm Casuals) who is an avid fan of the bands music. Lars even goes down to see Millwall play with The Last Resort singer Roi Pearce and has the logo of the football team on some of his guitars. This appeal has made the band grow on social media outlets and brought them forward in studio recordings and live performances, making them a band not to miss when they play.

They start of with 'This is my England' off the new record which is a contender for the next single and video. This song has a great mass appeal and you could even see this being played on mainstream radio in the States. The song has traditional Punk ideals and the lyrics are perfect for a band in the Oi genre. This song could not have been more right for this band and really get's the show off in the right way. The song makes you think of the times when Oi music first started up taking influences from Ska and Punk, some of the ideas that were put into the film 'This is England'.

The second track they play 'String Em' Up' which is one of my personal favourite is vicious and makes you want to hit someone that has made your life hell in the last few
years. This song as Roi says is "For all the wrong un's in the World" and to be honest their has been quite a few of them in the last few years. This is one of the most raw of all the bands tracks and it hits hard every time you hear it. It also makes you want to pump your fists in the air and go crazy, stomping around in your Dr. Martens boots.

'We are Invincible' has a real anthem feel to it, this sing-a-long tune is always a pleasure in any set like 'Resort boot Boys' later on which is ever present in the bands
setlists. These really get the crowd going like 'Skinhead Baby' a real favourite with the girls in the crowd, and there are some beauties in attendance tonight. I have always like the look of Skinhead girls they always have a great attitude around them and they look pretty hot to boot. 'Never get a Job' is by far one of the best songs tonight and I think that is because of the power of YouTube and the fact everyone has seen the music video for this number. This song really hits home in the UK today when you have a nation of people that can't get a job and really want one and to make something of themselves. I think this is why people have really taken to this song above some of the others on the album as well.

Classic 'King of the Jungle' is on form tonight and sounds better than it ever has before and the memorable song is heavier than ever but the best moments of the night come in the Rancid Esq. 'Attention all Units' which get's the mosh pits going crazy this song is one of the tracks that has really modernised the band and put them up a league even though for me The Last Resort are legends and can't do no wrong, but this has made them accessible to the youngster of the new generation. They end the set off with 'Violence in our Minds' a song that is probably in the minds of all the football thugs in the World.

If your a fan of Punk music and Oi music and don't know the Last Resort then I do wonder where you have been for the last twenty odd years. They are a band that get's better and better from album to album and always put a great live show. If you are a fan of Rancid to check this band out, because this is the band that influenced their attitude. Look out for more shows by The Last Resort because announcements are coming soon!!!. This is a band that I grew up listening to and love and will be going to see them whenever I can.
