Limp Bizkit - Still have a fire inside!

Bringing the fun to Graspop!

Graspop Metal Meeting

Limp Bizkit **** were one of the biggest names of the 90's and even though they don't get mentioned as much as they used to, they still know how to put on a great live show. I saw this again when they head lined on the main stage of Graspop a few years previous. This year their are two main stages and Limp Bizkit are the headliners of the second and their seems to be quite some anticipation for their set. As always Fred has on his peaked cap and Wes Borland has on!!! well whoever actually knows what he is dressed as, it's always kind of weird, but kind of cool at the same time. Wes is one of though's weird eccentric types and I don't think we will ever know what is going on in his mind, but I think that is why he creates such good music.

Kicking their set off with the lively single 'My Generation' which was one of the bands biggest single off their most popular albums 'Chocolate Starfish and the hot dog flavoured Water', yes a really weird name of an album and the cover was pretty weird too. Fred Durst really comes into action on 'Livin' it Up' showing off his rapping skills before the fast passed guitar riffs come in and everyone in the crowd springs into action and is jumping around to every melody. But as always the place really explodes for 'Rollin' and you witness everyone in the audience doing the dance from the video which is really enjoyable to watch.

'Hot Dog' off the same album is even more furious and goes down really well, so you wonder how many people in the crowd actually bought this record, because they know every song... I'm thinking most of them. The strange thing is why do people not like to admit that they are a Limp Bizkit fan because with songs like this, which is just an album track they really show what they can do. They continue on with a great cover version of 'Master of Puppets' by Metallica and two songs that first made a lot of people love Limp Bizkit 'Break Stuff' and 'Nookie' these songs both have killer beats and riffs and are songs that you go crazy to in a club environment. So you can just imagine how mad people went in a field in Belgium.

'Gold Cobra' off the bands comeback album of the same name, is pretty catchy and I can't seem to get it out of my head. This song really sends the crowd into a fury and is back up by 'My Way' and a very strange version of 'Eat you Alive' which he sings to a girl fan on stage. Just say she screeches the lyrics and Fred doesn't hand the microphone back after the first couple of times. This is quite sweet thing for Fred to do, including a fan in the bands set and shows he does care.

As always the bands George Michael's cover of 'Faith' goes down as well as free drinks at the bar, but it's 'Re-Arranged' that grabs my attention because it is a song I always loved and couldn't stop playing when I first bought my copy of 'Significant Other'.The bands version of 'Killing in the Name' by Rage against the Machine is just killer and kind of is the highlight of the almost rampant covers section that ends off with the crowd singing every word of the bands cover of The Who song 'Behind blue Eyes'... Yes all these covers are cool, but I always prefer when a band plays their own material.

I wish they would play songs like 'Pollution' and a full version of 'Counterfeit' not just the intro, but maybe this isn't the time and the place for that and the fans love it when the band end the set with the Mission Impossible theme tune 'Take a look Around'. You start to wonder why people don't admit that they like Limp Bizkit, because i have to say they are one of the best live acts I have ever seen and they all pull out all the stops.
