Loick Essien - Is all smiles in Oxford!
****
Check out Loick before he explodes even bigger in the music biz!
Loick Essien **** in last few years he has caused a stir, but the thing I wanted to know does he live up to the hype. From the moment he hit the stage you can hear his voice is something else and he uses it with ease. He also has a great body of work, including material that has been recorded with some of the best acts in the buissness including Chipmunk, Bashy and the infamous N-Dubz. A selection of his best songs include 'Last Romance' to 'Love Drunk' and his massive chart hit 'How we Roll' all of which are very memorable after listening to them and all of them have been played regularly on national radio. You might think you don't know Loick Essien but you would be surprised to find you probably do without knowing it, his songs have been playing everywhere so must people actually know them.
My favourite track which he performed tonight was 'Me without You' which is a nice dramatic love song that really hooks you in and his high pitch notes are just pitch perfect. You can listen to this track at the bottom of the page and it is really something else and the way he puts it across in Oxford is really special. He really knows how to work the stage and moves around it really quickly so everyone in any position in the venue gets a good glimpse of him, this is the way a performer past his years would deliver himself on stage. He has voice really echo's around the o2 Academy and their is not a free space anywhere, everyone is packed in like sardines.

He gets the crowd joining in with him in a set the ends to quickly with his mega hit single 'How we Roll' which everyone sung along to, makes you realise he is a real talent just waiting to explode, I personally think he would do a lot better Stateside than in the UK and when his music hits over there we will most definitely see how it rolls and I think it's gonna be big style. His confidence and smiles makes Loick really accessible to the general public, there is just something about him that makes you warm to him the moment you see him.
Sadly the way the sound engineer put across the music in the venue didn't do him justice because the backing was far too loud and his vocals were too far down in the mix, It would have been nice to hear more of him and less of the beat. This is not Loick's fault and he did amazingly well to push across his great personality on the Oxford crowd and he worked really well as a support act to Blue with his different contrast in styles.
