The Lost Society - A new direction for these Thrashers

Bringin' out their Emo side in the sun!!!

The Lost Society *** are a Finnish band I have been listening to and watching for a while, so was very surprised they have changed from Thrash Metal, to a brand of Black veil Brides Emo / Rock. I know
a few people in the crowd who had seen them before, where a little surprised. I could hear them talking after their performance about it, and asking themselves if they liked it or not. Opening up with 'Blood on your Hands' off the album 'No Absolution', which was one the first tracks to show off signs of change within the sound of Lost Society. I actually really love this track it sounds like the band The Defiled, which I really love. It doesn't sound so much like The Defiled live, but it still has some good moments to it and starts the band off in the right way. And the Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold) esq. guitar sequence is killer.

'What have I Done' I think the title of this track, is what fans of their album 'Fast loud Death' record are wondering. Even though this song does have a nice riff to it that flows through the song, but I do feel the band are a little out of time with each other in places. I think some of this is deliberate but some of  this isn't, so their sound isn't big enough in places. They do look the part though, like what you would expect a band from Finland to look. Gone are the cut up denim jeans and Thrash T-Shirt and the tight skinny jeans and black eyeliner has arrived, finishing off The Lost Society transformation.

'Into Eternity' is a massive change, it's a nice Metallica esq. ballard type song. Which I think is hard to pull off at a Metal festival, and it does not seem out of place in their set. I am really pleased they added 'Riot', off the 'Braindead' album to their set. I really like this song, has a great Anthrax feel to it. And is a mover, that think worked well at the festival. They end on the single 'Stitches', which is a little more Nu-Metal / American Rock (Think Korn meets  American head Charge meets Linkin Park / Blind Channel). This is one of my favourite of the new era of The Lost Society tracks, I can imagine myself listening to this. And sits nicely next to 'No Asolution', the title track off their last record which has anthem like qualities.

I really think it's sad they feel they had to change this much, but I guess looking back this move was coming. I really liked them when they were Thrash Metal, and feel it's sad they wanted to change. And I wonder if we will hear songs like 'Kill those who Oppose Me' and 'Trash all over You'  live again, I think this is too much of a change in genre and music for the band to be still called the same name. I would feel a little cheated if I bought the bands new record 'If the sky came Down', expecting a pure all out Thrash record and then getting what they have changed into. They both have their merits, and not saying either is bad. But if I buy what I think is a Trash record, and get an Emo Rock record it's not what I wanted to buy. It's like wanting to buy Slayer 'Angel of Death', and getting 'Wannabe' by the Spice Girls you are not going to be pleased.
