Gettin' down with Mexican Dogs
Smooth vibes all round for this Liverpool based trio the Mexican Dogs, who are fronted by Songwriter / Guitarist / Singer and former member of Brides, Gaz Wilcox. Carl Rooney (Drums) and bassist Sonny Winder Rodger (Bass). If you like The Black Keys or Royal Blood, you will love Mexican Dogs. Their catchy riffs give off Classic Rock vibes from such artists as T-Rex. These guys are really showcasing their lifelong influences and interpretating it in their own modern way. For me, its complete on the go Rock that puts you in a good mood.
The EP is filled with Rock melodies leading into some heavy chord progressions, Gaz Wilcox lead singer said, “the best songs are the simplest and the hardest to find.” Best not to over complicate things and keep it natural and I believe this EP feels very natural. If they continue to release songs this good, I reckon we will start to hear a lot more from them. They just need to get the exposure and the support slots to take themselves to the next level, and I think they can do it.
The band signed with Fretsore Records, and it appears the label are very exited about things to come and are very passionate about progressing the band forward. Mexican Dogs are beginning to get a reputation on the Liverpool music scene as one of the hottest bands around. Inside out Rock 'n' Roll that’s beginning to spread out across the rest of the UK, and countries in Europe like Belgium and Holland.
It's so hard to pick a favourite song as all four are so good, but I did really enjoy Gaz Wilcox vocal on ‘You and I’. The song has a great flow to it, as the song progresses the tempo increases raising the energy with more sweet riffs. I could see them working well in a stadium environment, maybe supporting the likes of Biffy Clyro.
The tracks are well all written with enough of a heavy riff to keep Rock at their core. Hope to see more soon. They have recently released a new music video for ‘When It's Gone’ which I would recommend highly. By checking out Mexican Dogs official YouTube channel you can find an official video for each song on the EP, which is a great thing to do. To have a video for every single, you can all see the video for 'When it's Gone' at the bottom of this page.
