Miranda sex Garden - Reunion is impressive in London

July 28th 2022
London, 100 Club, UK

****1/2

The long wait is over!!!

Miranda sex Garden ****1/2 first started in 1990 and are fronted by Katherine Blake, which has been a figure on the London scene for years. It's has bene a very long time since the band had played in London, so we were really looking forward to seeing them at the 100 Club. Yes! Miranda sex Garden are back after over twenty years of being seperated, and they played a great live show in London last night. Their final album 'Carnival of Souls' released in 2000, twenty two years ago had some really great moments. So it is kind of sad it has taken so long for Miranda sex Garden to come back.

I have to say my brother was always more into this band, than I am... but I heard them a lot coming out of his stereo over the years. So I thouhgt I would see them live, to see why he loved them for so many years. Miranda sex Garden mix up so many genres from Traditional Goth, Classical to Alternative Folk, and Rock. As I said I don't know as much as I possibly should about the band, because I personally was never into them. But I do know they used to have Trevor Sharpe on Drums, I know him for being the drummer in a band I really love called The Servant. I was also told by a friend, that Ben Golomstock is missing from the line-up tonight because he sadly passed away. This friend had known him really well, so watching the band without him was very hard. He also told me that he did a lot with the music over the years, so he was sad because he would have loved to have seen him playing with them tonight.

He said that Ben had a great connection with other band members, so that is sad that he is absent tonight. Opening the show with 'Ever and Ever' off thier final album, they make a grand entrance back into the  live arena. To the delight of their fans that have been waiting a longtime for the reformation of the band, and you can see a lot of smiles on faces all around the venue. A nice inclusion in the set is The Wooden Boat, which is very Electronic, and has a playful sound to it. I am sure Miranda sex Garden with songs like this influenced newer bands like The Birthday Massacre, it has a very soundtrack vibe to it.

Miranda sex Garden like bands like The Last Dance, Faith in the Muse, Switchblade Symphony and Killing Miranda really did define many years of the 90's for a lot of people on the Alternative scene, and tonight in a way seems like you have been taken back in time. You really could think you are back in the 90's at the 100 Club which is very near the lights of Soho. They get emotional with tracks like 'Broken Glass', which really pulls at the heartstrings. And 'Wheel' which is just haunting, and makes you have shivers all down your spine. The atmosphere tonight is simply amazing, for tracks 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Velvetine'

They really give out everything, in their set. It is passionate, with a great connection between all band members. One of the best moments in the set is 'Cut' off their album 'Fairytales about Slavery', I think this is one of the songs everyone has really waited so long to hear live again. As well as the two songs they play in tonight's encore which are possibly the two songs you would most except them to play at the end of their set 'Peep Show' and 'Play', these songs are fan favourites for sure. This was a magical evening, of fairytales and traditional Gothic music that anyone who loves this genre would really not want to miss. I really do hope they come back with UK and European tour in 2023, because I know alot of people that didn't get to see them in London that would love to.
