Of monsters and Men album goes platinum!
Of monsters and Men’s critically lauded debut album 'My head is an Animal' just received a platinum certification from the RIAA for sales in excess of 1,000,000. This is the Icelandic quintet’s first platinum plaque for a full length release in the US. The record is also platinum in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Iceland and Australia. This news also follows up last month’s release of the iTunes exclusive EP, Live From Vatnagarðar available now and featuring seven tracks from a live studio session including a special take on 'Skeletons' from Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's.
At the moment, the alternative folk trailblazers are back in Iceland composing ideas for their sophomore effort. Building off the magic of 'My head is an Animal' excitement surrounding the music is undeniably palpable. Expect to hear a lot more from Of monsters and Men in 2014 because their is a lot coming your way to look forward to. The group’s multi platinum single 'Little Talks' reached No.1 on Billboard's Alternative and AAA charts, landed at top fourty and has achieved platinum status. It's music video is over eighty five million YouTube / VEVO views. It's follow up single 'Mountain Sound' reached No.5 at Alternative.
They also appeared on 'Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' and 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' twice, once to perform 'Little Talks' and then again to perform 'Mountain Sound'. In addition their song 'Silhouettes' is featured on the chart topping soundtrack for 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'. Meanwhile, 'Dirty Paws' serves as a key song for the soundtrack of 'The Secret life of Walter Mitty' starring Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig.
The track not only is a centerpiece of the tracklisting, but it fueled the trailer as well. Press acclaim has been unanimous. Vanity Fair exclaimed that they're "Worthy of of the hype", Paste Magazine dubbed them "the next big thing", Nylon Magazine wrote "Of monsters and Men have been destined for greatness," and The Huffington Post said “The Icelandic five some have melodies that are eerie, jamming, groovy, and overall epic". Back in early 2012, Rolling Stone Magazine assured that you should "Expect them be all over the American Indie radar soon" and now they are.
Republic Records would like to congratulate Of monsters and Men on this milestone.
