Like a moth to a flame, like a fire that won't go out!

Vans Warped Tour

Like moths to Flames **** (Jagermeister Stage) performance suffers a little from them being put on this small stage today. The sound for them is not the best and some of the songs are hard to make out, but the band burst through this and try to bring out a set that any band would be proud of.

They open with the track 'The Worst in Me' is a crazy inferno of sound that beats down like a metronome on you and then grounded by a great beat down. This is all fiery and dramatic and really grabs you in the chest like a piece of hot food.

'I Solemnly Swar' is a chaos of new blood, this is a band showing the World what they have to offer and on 'An eye for an Eye' new record is their definitive offering. The sound of their new record mixes up influences from the likes what Of mice & Men to maybe even early material by The Used or Motionless in White.  These bands you might not normally associate with this band but I can see hints of them in the music that Like moths to Flames make a long with the usual influences of bands that came before While she Sleeps like Black Flag and even Converge.

'Learn your Place' and 'GNF' are similar in sound and the mid set for me is the low point in their performance, but they make up for it with closing tracks 'Lord of Bones' and 'You won't be Missed' with smash you in the face like a massive brick. Yes they are that good. This is a band you really need great sound for because they mix up complexities with killer riffs and an aggression that can't be ignored. They do sound better of recordings than live but maybe this was just on this occasion, I will check them out again.
