Motorhead - Are back for the first time since cancelling shows!
***
Motorhead bring some Rock n Roll to proceedings at Hyde Park!
British Summer Time
Motorhead *** (Main Stage) By the time the legends of Metal, Motorhead take to the stage the sun is absolutely blazing and everyone seems to have their sunglasses on. A day in the sun with beer and Heavy Metal wouldn't be complete without a slice of Lemmy and the boys, that if you can actually get to the bar to buy some beer because the que's are really long and the beer is really expensive. But when you have your beer in place and are watching the band it's almost like a piece of Heaven brought down to the middle London.
This is the first time Motorhead have been back in the capital after they had to cancel shows on the tour due to Lemmy's ill health and they play a very short set, but still a solid one sticking mainly to the favorites and airing just one track from their latest album 'Aftershock'. The new album has gathered rave reviews and is a very strong one indeed so it's sad that we only got to witness one gem off it.
Opening with 'Damage Case' a mid paced song with Lemmy's recent poor health it's evident that Lemmy is pacing himself. The sole song from 'Aftershock' is the slow Bluesy 'Lost woman Blues' and Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee are the ones that really carry the band. Even with the short slot they have today they still fit in an solo each and great solo's they are especially Mikkey's one. Things really get going when Ugly Kid Joe's Whitfield Crane joins the band for 'Killed by Death', which he has done before on countless occasions because he is such a big Motorhead fan.
Saying that Lemmy doesn't owe anything to anyone and showing his age aside the fact that he is here at all makes everyone happy and 'Ace of Spades' and 'Overkill' are as always phenomenal. They always come across better in doors and as a headline act but today goes down well nonetheless. It was good to see Motorhead in the sun, but I would not say this was a classic set and you could see that Lemmy's condition was not good. You have to respect the iconic singer for turning up and trying his best though, full points for trying!!!.
