Moulettes - Constellations
***
Award winners don't always strike gold!!!
Moulettes originally started making music around the ages of 15 - 17 and have released a couple of EP’s and singles which were released on their debut 'Balling the Jack.Satones' four years ago. Alongside winning awards for best group and being nominated for best band at the Brit Awards. Moulettes are returning with their third studio album, but their first since being signed with Navigator Records.
'Constellations' opens with the track 'Glorious Year', this track is filled with optimism. This track starts with repeated vocals, acoustic guitars, and thumping drums, however it’s the vocals that make the track due to it’s layering of the various melodies. 'Lady Vengeance' on the other hand suggests a change in mood, although it features artist Arthur Brown who has a distinctive voice which is set to a dramatic voice (You might remember him from that classic track 'Fire'). However both vocalists work well together and it provides the song with an unusual tone.
'The Night is Young' has another change in mood within the track. The following track is 'So it Goes' with is edgy and experimental and is reminiscent to Kate Bush and Gentle Giant, although 'In the land of the midnight Sun' represents a more experimental side to the group. 'The Elegy' features vocals from The Unthanks and is a dramatic track although the soft tones are a contrast to the dramatic side of the track. 'The Observatory' sounds similar to Kate Bush, however the track is built up of male vocals. This track is one of the more progressive ones on the album. The last track on the album is a cohesive piece that conveys the Moulettes creativity.
